About the Job

As a Part-Time System Engineer at Avandra Imaging, you will be an early-career technical generalist supporting the stability, reliability, and performance of our systems. This role bridges frontline technical support, quality assurance, and systems automation, enabling Engineering teams to move quickly and confidently.

This is a hands-on, growth-oriented role designed for candidates early in their technical careers who are eager to build strong foundations in systems engineering, automation, and troubleshooting in a real-world production environment.

What You’ll Do:

Technical Support & Systems Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and resolve software, system, and infrastructure issues across Avandra’s products and internal tooling
• Act as a technical point of contact for escalated or ambiguous issues impacting reliability, performance, or accessibility
• Support deployment, configuration, and maintenance of software, hardware, and internal systems

Quality Assurance

• Contribute to the quality and reliability of Avandra’s software through structured QA processes
• Write and maintain automated test suites (integration, regression, smoke tests)
• Participate in release testing and validation efforts
• Ensure appropriate test coverage for new features and critical infrastructure

System Automation

• Write scripts and tools for deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting
• Support infrastructure provisioning and configuration using automation tools (e.g., Terraform, Ansible)
• Improve system observability through logging, alerting, and dashboards
• Identify repetitive tasks and build automated solutions to reduce manual effort

What You’ll Need:

• Experience in a technical role (support, QA, IT operations, help desk) or relevant academic, bootcamp, or project experience
• Basic proficiency with Linux/Unix or macOS command-line environments
• Familiarity with at least one scripting language (Python, Bash, JavaScript, Go, etc.)
• Understanding of APIs, client/server concepts, and modern web applications
• Ability to read and interpret logs, error messages, and system metrics at a foundational level
• Basic experience with databases (queries, connections, or schema concepts)

What You’ll Do: 

As an Embedded Systems Engineer at Traeger, you will design, develop, and implement embedded software that controls our Traeger grills, MEATER wireless probes, and product test fixtures. You will contribute to sustaining our current products, building new features and enhancements that improve performance and user experience, and discovering innovations for future products. Success in this position requires strong analytical and data driven problem-solving skills, creativity, innovation, and attention to detail, along with clear communication of findings and progress across hardware, firmware, performance, and product teams. 

This position is with the firmware development group located in our Cleveland, Ohio office. 

How You'll Help Us Win: 

• Design, document, manage, and maintain embedded software solutions from concept to implementation, ensuring they meet performance, cost, compliance, and reliability requirements.  

• Collaborate with the stakeholders, test team, culinary, and design engineers to ensure everything is properly implemented and tested.  

• Improve, troubleshoot, and resolve any issues or failures that arise during development, testing, or production.  

• Support occasional travel or after-hours teleconferences with domestic and international partners as needed.  

What You'll Need To Succeed: 

• Bachelor’s degree in computer engineering, computer science, or related technical field.  

• 1 to 4 years of experience designing and developing firmware. 

• Proficiency in C programming language.  

• Thorough understanding of RTOS based micro-controllers and micro-controller architecture. 

• Experience with hardware bring-up and bench level debugging using test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, digital multi-meters, and data acquisition equipment). 

• Experience with at least some drivers for and/or utilizing various peripheral devices, sensors, and protocols such as BLE, Wi-Fi, UART, SPI, I2C, etc.  

• Ability to effectively communicate ideas across a cross functional team. 

• Self-motivated and self-driven to work independently on a task but call for help when needed. 

• Experience with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams). 

• Ability to travel occasionally (<5%) both domestically and overseas, including to Asia, to support product development activities. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Knowledge of reading and interpreting digital electrical schematics. 

• Basic knowledge of Python for test development and build scripting 

• Familiarity using Gitlab, P4 (HelixCore) or similar revision control systems. 

• Familiarity with consumer IoT architecture and products utilizing WiFi and Bluetooth. 

• Familiarity leveraging AI to improve efficiency. 

• Familiarity with product development using a stage-gate process. 

• Familiarity using JIRA for work assignments.
