Job Description

The mission of this role is to architect and develop firmware and microcontroller subsystems for Astera Labs’ SoC and systems products. Firmware is responsible for implementing the major differentiating features of Astera Labs’ products. As such, firmware is considered equally important to the hardware, and the firmware team is often customer-facing accordingly to ensure the needs of the customer are fully comprehended.

Basic qualifications

• Strong academic and technical background in Electronics/Electrical/Computer Science engineering. At a minimum, a Bachelor’s is required, and a Master’s is preferred.

• Minimum 5 years’ experience supporting or developing complex SoC/silicon products for Server, Storage, and/or Networking applications.

• Experience developing firmware to execute in on-chip microcontrollers as well as C-language software development kits (SDKs) to execute on system management controllers (e.g. BMC).

• Experience working with logic designers to architect and verify HW-SW interfaces on complex SoCs.

• Professional attitude with the ability to prioritize a dynamic list of multiple tasks, to plan and prepare for customer meetings in advance, and to work with minimal guidance and supervision.

Required experience

• MQX RTOS or ThreadX Development or enablement

• High level of proficiency in C (preferred) or C++, including development of C-based SDKs

• High level of proficiency in Python for automating pre-processors/post-processors and FW QC

• Working knowledge of software/firmware build environments, gcc/Make, Doxygen, and GitHub.

• Hands-on experience with Server, Storage, and/or Networking equipment (e.g. Network Switches).

• Familiarity with SoC interfaces to common IP blocks such as PCIe Controllers, DDR Controllers, NVME Controllers, AMBA/AHB interfaces, on-chip memory interfaces, and other similar interfaces

• Direct experience working on products with high-speed interfaces common in Data Center equipment: PCI- Express (Gen-3 and above), 100/400G Ethernet, Infiniband, DDR, NVMe, USB, etc.

• Deep understanding of the L1, L2 and L3(good to have), and solid understanding of the IEEE 802.3(802.3df, 802.3db (good to have), 802.3de, 802.33dd)
• Experience developing the firmware for any of the TCP/IP based SoC (switch SoC or NIC function SoC) focusing on all aspects of RAS and its interface development for better user experience. 

Preferred experience

• Experience developing firmware to execute in on-chip microcontrollers as well as C-language SDKs to execute on system management controllers (e.g. BMC)

• Experience developing embedded firmware for PCIe or Ethernet Switch products

• Experience with industry forums and collaboration workgroups such as OCP and OpenBMC

Overview

Join our team as a Firmware Team Representative in the APAC region, focusing on facilitating communication and technical collaboration between cross-functional teams and vendors, notably Qualcomm. Your role is crucial in driving hardware issue triage and resolution, ensuring seamless integration and optimal performance of WiFi and Bluetooth technologies within wearable devices.

Responsibilities

• Act as the primary liaison between cross-functional teams including RF, Antenna, Validation, BSP, and connectivity software to resolve bring up and production hardware issues.
• Manage and resolve technical issues with external chip vendors, such as Qualcomm, to ensure device performance and feature reliability.
• Perform NVM and BDF modifications and firmware integration within the Qualcomm WiFi/BT chipset ecosystem.
• Conduct detailed log analysis using tools like Logcat, dmesg, and QXDM to identify and troubleshoot issues effectively.
• Support operations in CM factories or labs, ensuring adherence to project specifications and timelines.

Minimum Qualifications

• Expertise with Qualcomm WiFi/BT chipset technologies and related ecosystems.
• Proficiency in NVM, BDF modifications, and firmware integration specific to Qualcomm platforms.
• Experience in log analysis using tools such as Logcat, dmesg, and QXDM.
• Strong communication skills to interact effectively with cross-functional teams.
• Ability to offer technical support in factory environments or labs as required.
• Experience with tooling and scripting for factory, on-device, or PC tools, using languages such as Python and C/C++.
• Familiarity with RF bring-up, factory processes, or SAR/certification processes.

Preferred Qualifications

• Knowledge of Qualcomm antenna tuner operations and exposure to SAR/smart transmit/coexistence features.

Required Experience

• Silicon/system bring-up and debug experience in customer systems.
• Strong knowledge of embedded FW development and in-system debug

• Strong knowledge of PCIe protocol, including LTSSM, EQ, DMA, etc.
• Strong knowledge of NRZ/PAM4 SerDes level debugging (TX/RX Equalization) in PCIe, Ethernet (25G and above), etc.
• Firsthand experience with lab equipment including traffic generators, analyzers, and high-speed oscilloscopes.

• Broad knowledge of NRZ/PAM4 SerDes-based protocols such as PCIe or Ethernet (25G and above).
• Understanding of Data Center systems such as servers, compute nodes, JBOGs/JBODs, and networking switches/routers/interconnects, etc.
• Technical writing skills and the ability to generate clear, precise documentation including datasheets, application notes, and similar guides for both internal audiences and customers.

• Broad knowledge of signal processing and ECC coding for communications
• Device driver development
• Development/support for PCIe or Ethernet switch products
• Working with silicon characterization/validation teams to ensure desired device performance is readily achievable in customer systems.
• Knowledge of simulation/modeling, schematic capture, and PCB layout tools from Cadence, Altium and others.
• Knowledge of simulation tools such as Keysight ADS, SiSoft QCD, and others, for IBIS-AMI analysis.
• A strong background in high-speed board design and techniques for preserving signal integrity.

As a Mechatronics Specialist/Engineer, you will play a pivotal role in designing and optimizing state-of-the-art electromechanical systems. Your expertise will drive the innovation of our motor designs and control systems, enhancing efficiency and performance.

• Specify, test, and tune BLDC motors, harmonic drives, and customized gearboxes.
• Design motor control firmware (FOC) for maximum efficiency and torque density.

The Job:

• Own the end-to-end software architecture for 3D printers and post-processing equipment, encompassing embedded firmware interfaces, device control, and application/cloud layers.

• Lead the electronics design of 3D printing and related products
• Full-stack design, able to go from concept to initial prototype and mature the design to mass production. Ownership of designs throughout the product life cycle

Role Summary

Field engineers carry a significant responsibility - helping customers understand the range of silicon and board options, helping them deliver their unique applications, and helping them ensure the security of critical infrastructure. Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities

• Build strategic relationships with key technology partners and customers
• Conduct yourself as a trusted technical advisor
• Apply expertise in analysing a customer's business or technical challenges and correctly map the appropriate solution
• Leverage deep knowledge of Ubuntu and related technologies to provide technical subject matter expertise to sales staff, partners, and customers for the development and implementation of complex IoT products and end-end solutions
• Work in conjunction with Canonical’s IoT and Cloud sales, delivery and business development teams to grow existing customer accounts as well as winning new customers, including the interaction with other offices in APAC (Taipei, Tokyo and Beijing).
• Develop and present technical sales collateral such as presentations, how-to guides, and technical competitive documents to project teams.
• Propose and present custom technical solutions to Canonical’s clients and partners based upon Ubuntu technologies such as Ubuntu Core, Snaps and other Canonical technologies.
• Understand and champion the technical knowledge and product skills required to meet customer requirements and close new business.
• Assist in coordinating and preparing responses to RFx documents.
• Based in Shenzhen, travel required; mix of domestic and international up to 30%.

Required Skills and Experience

• A degree in engineering, preferably computer science or software engineering

• Experience of working in verticals such as automotive, robotics, gateway, networking, industrial and digital signage.
• 5+ years of experience in technical roles with Linux, preferably Ubuntu
• Open source & Linux
• Familiarity with open source development tools and methodology.
• A strong and demonstrated grasp of Linux technologies including advanced scripting, development and Linux software packaging experience.
• Familiarity with the licenses and license compliance requirements for open source software.
• Familiarity with boot loaders and hardware-related aspects of Linux development
• Strong English and Chinese language communication skills, especially in online environments such as mailing lists and social collaboration tools
• Ability to be productive in a globally distributed team through self-discipline and self-motivation, delivering according to a schedule.
• Self-driven personality.
