The Client Products & Emerging Technology (CP&ET) team is a global, cross-functional group dedicated to building foundational frameworks and innovative, app-wide features that shape the end-to-end experience for Airbnb’s guests and hosts. The Difference You Will Make:

As a member of a diverse and distributed team across the US and China, you’ll be expected to leverage your expertise in both Frontend and Backend development (Frontend-Heavy) to play a key role in building foundational frameworks, exploring emerging technologies, driving best practices, and enabling rapid feature rollouts that integrate seamlessly throughout the Airbnb ecosystem.

A Typical Day: 

• Collaborate closely with engineers across platforms—including frontend, backend, native (iOS/Android), and infrastructure—to build cohesive solutions.
• Work in partnership with cross-functional teams, including Design, Product, and Data Science, to define and deliver impactful outcomes.
• Propose and implement robust architectural patterns for high-scale web applications and backend services, focusing on well-designed APIs, efficient data pipelines, and performant algorithms.
• Develop scalable, high-quality foundational frameworks as well as innovative product features used by millions of guests and hosts.
• Evaluate technical solutions, contribute to product and framework design discussions, and help shape new features from concept to launch.
• Drive alignment, manage technical projects, and work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Write unit and integration tests, participate in code reviews, and uphold high engineering standards across the team.

Your Expertise:

• 5+ years of professional software development experience, with a focus on building both frontend and backend systems 
• Advanced proficiency in modern frontend technologies—including HTML, CSS, JavaScript/TypeScript, frameworks like React or Angular, and frontend architecture (build tools, reusable components).
• Deep expertise in one or more backend/server languages (e.g., Java, Kotlin, C++, etc.) and proven experience designing and scaling high-quality, high-traffic backend services
• Passion for building and evolving foundational frameworks that solve key engineering needs and support the wider team.
• Proven track record of delivering impactful products end-to-end, with a dedication to creating interactive, high-quality, and delightful user experiences.
• Self-driven and excited to tackle large, open-ended projects and drive meaningful business impact in a collaborative environment.
• Solid foundation in unit, integration, and end-to-end testing practices.
• Fluent in both Chinese and English

This position is remote work within China Mainland. The role may include occasional work at an Airbnb office or attendance at offsites, as agreed to with your manager. We are hiring 2 Staff Software Engineer positions for different teams under the Community Support Platform.

Community Support Engineering is responsible for the world-class technology, architecture, and solutions that power CS at Airbnb. The products and capabilities we build empower our guests and hosts, CS agents, and operations teams around the world. The Difference You Will Make:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated engineer who is passionate about making a difference through their work. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be the technical lead in a team of talented and diverse software engineers leading the project execution to improve Airbnb customers and agents experience. You will lead the team and work with global technical leaders to build and evolute CS engineering foundations, such as Routing, Data platform, Case management, foundational toolings etc

A Typical Day: 

• Collaborating with cross-functional partners to deeply understand business problems before developing project solutions.
• Leading the execution of projects across the full software development lifecycle, including technical design, implementation, testing, and deployment, ensuring solutions are high-quality, scalable, and performant; 
• Driving productive and constructive technical discussions with peers and cross-team technical leaders in the global collaborative working environment, to ensure alignments with technical strategies across CS products and capabilities.
• Tackling highly complex technical challenges, proactively identifying and mitigating potential risks during project execution.
• Writing exemplary and high-quality codes and design documents that set the standard for the team.
• Advocating for and embedding engineering best practices within the team, ensuring a culture of technical excellence.
• Actively coaching and mentoring engineers across the CSP China team to foster growth and elevate technical capabilities.
• Supporting team growth by participating in recruiting efforts and conducting interviews.
• Promoting and exemplifying an engineering culture with inclusiveness, effective communication, and quality. 
• Being a collaborative and supportive teammate who inspires and elevates the entire engineering organization.

Your Expertise:

• 9+ years of software development experience.
• Strong proficiency in at least one major backend programming language (e.g., Java, Kotlin, Scala, Python); experience with modern front-end frameworks (e.g., React, Angular, Vue.js) are preferred but not a must.
• Proven track record of delivering end-to-end products in a collaborative environment globally.
• Experience with architectural patterns of large-scale web applications, including well-designed APIs, high-volume data pipelines, and efficient algorithms.
• Demonstrated ability to make data-driven decisions, articulate technical trade-offs, and communicate effectively with cross-functional partners.
• Passion for creating intuitive user experiences and a keen interest in data systems and analytics.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Fluent in both English and Chinese.
