About the role:

The mobile connectivity platform team owns the BLE implementation on all Samsara products. We are looking for a Senior Software Engineer to join our team to build and own the platform on our mobile products: Samsara Driver and Samsara Fleet.

These products support our customers across their entire organization and power their most critical tasks, helping frontline workers and administrators be more efficient when they’re on the go. Over the next few years, we’ll be rapidly adding new unique experiences and products to our portfolio, which means that our mobile products will become even more critical and need to expand to support millions of users. You will be responsible for the end-to-end success of new products and features that delight our customers and further Samsara’s vision.

We use React Native, Typescript, Redux, and GraphQL for our mobile apps, Golang for our backend, and C and Golang for our firmware.

• Fix it, Ship it, Own it. You’ll take full ownership of React Native features — from concept to production — delivering high-quality experiences across iOS and Android
• Build and iterate quickly by breaking work into small, shippable increments, using modern tooling (including AI) to move faster and smarter

What You Bring

• 5+ years building and shipping React Native applications at scale across iOS and Android, with clear ownership of features from concept to production
• Deep expertise in TypeScript/JavaScript and state management (Redux or similar), with strong opinions on architecture, performance, and maintainability
• Proven experience bridging React Native with native code (Java/Kotlin), including debugging and optimizing platform-specific issues
• Strong understanding of mobile system design, including networking, offline support, caching strategies, and performance optimization
• Experience designing and integrating robust RESTful APIs, with a focus on reliability and scalability
• Solid experience with testing strategies (unit, integration, end-to-end) using tools like Jest, and a mindset of shipping quality code
• Comfortable working in large, complex codebases (monorepos/modular architectures) and driving improvements to code quality, patterns, and developer experience

What You'll Do

• Work with product and engineering managers to implement business-critical features enabling new user experiences across the entire stack (React Native for FE and Python, Kotlin for BE)
• Work with team technical leaders to design and implement insightful, forward-looking approaches that go beyond the direct team and solve significant open-ended problems.
• Consistently generate simple, elegant designs and write high-quality code that others can easily understand and leverage.
• Collaborate with the design team to ensure a visually appealing and user-friendly interface.
• Build relationships with people across engineering and other organizations for project design, implementation, roll-out, and maintenance.
• Implement robust analytics and tracking to measure the effectiveness of acquisition efforts.
• Work with other backend engineers to integrate with APIs and data sources.
• Participate in code reviews and ensure code quality and adherence to best practices.
• Stay up-to-date on the latest web development technologies and trends.

What We Look For

• 2+ years of experience as a full stack developer
• Prior experience building and maintaining complex full stack systems with cross-browser support
• Familiarity/Exposure to: React Native, Python / Java / Kotlin
• Knowledge of modern front-end tech stack (we use Javascript, Typescript, React/Redux, ES6, Webpack, and CSS3)
• Prior experience with monitoring and alerting systems (Sentry.io, Rollbar, Chronosphere, Kibana)
• Experience with A/B testing and experimentation
• A pragmatic, user-focused approach to delivering high-quality features safely and incrementally

Employees new to Affirm typically come in at the start of the pay range. Affirm focuses on providing a simple and transparent pay structure which is based on a variety of factors, including location, experience and job-related skills.

Your Role & Mission

This role sits at the intersection of engineering, security, and fraud operations. The hired candidate will play a critical role in evolving Apollo’s abuse detection and account security capabilities.

As a Senior Engineer (Fraud), you’ll work closely with Fraud Operations, Data Science, Application Security, and Product to modernize abuse detection logic. You'll prototype and deploy new risk decisioning systems and build the technical foundation for new fraud decision models over the next several quarters. This role is ideal for a senior engineer who thrives in ambiguous, data-driven problem spaces and enjoys building systems that protect our customers and business.

Daily Adventures & Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and ongoing improvement of abuse detection services and customer account security features
• With assistance of technical leadership, implement a home-grown risk decision engine
• Build and maintain APIs to support extensible, low-latency risk decisioning
• Research and analyze abuse tools and attacker tactics to inform detection strategies
• Participate in fraud incident triage and lead development of mitigations and remediation
• Collaborate with Data Science and Data Engineering on model feature and system design
• Work closely with Fraud Operations and Application Security to align detection and response
• Stay informed on fraud prevention trends and apply relevant insights internally

Skills & Relevant Experience

• 5+ years building production backend systems in a SaaS or similar environment
• Experience designing scalable backend services; exposure to risk or decisioning systems a plus
• Proven track record of designing customer-first features
• Ability to explore and validate ideas using imperfect or partially structured data
• Strong foundation in secure system design and layered defenses
• Comfortable presenting designs to both technical peers and senior stakeholders
• Familiarity with common abuse vectors, evasion techniques, or scraping patterns
• Strong ownership mindset and ability to prioritize effectively
• Fraud, trust & safety, or security-adjacent experience preferred

This is a Ful time position based in Canada. The offered salary range is $70,000 - $120,000 CAD annually, depending on experience and location.
