Staff Software Engineer (iOS)
Position Overview
We are looking for a Staff iOS Software Engineer with strong expertise in native iOS development (Objective-C, Swift) and a solid understanding of backend technologies, to join our Boards Mobile team at the Center for Global Product Innovation in Budapest.
This role goes beyond traditional mobile engineering: we are seeking someone passionate about leveraging AI-driven technologies, automation, and modern development practices to deliver smarter, more intuitive mobile solutions.
The ideal candidate thrives in complex technical environments, is highly collaborative, and brings an innovative mindset to solve challenges using both proven software engineering practices and emerging AI-powered approaches.
Key Responsibilities
- Take ownership of technical challenges, bringing curiosity and resourcefulness to ambiguous problems.
- Define and drive the development of complex features ensuring scalability, reliability, and security.
- Strong product partnership: translating business requirements into clear technical plans, communicating risk/impact crisply.
- Tackle high-impact problems, producing clear plans, prototypes, and production-ready solutions.
- Integrate AI and automation where appropriate to improve app functionality, personalization, or developer productivity.
- Raise the quality bar through rigorous code reviews, observability, and operational excellence.
- Drive tooling, hosting, DevOps, and quality assurance automation initiatives to improve velocity and reliability.
- Communicate clearly on strategy, progress, and risks.
- Mentor senior and mid-level peer engineers.
- Contribute to high-quality system documentation, operational guidelines, and knowledge sharing.
Required Experience & Skills
- 7+ years of professional iOS development with Swift, including modern Swift Concurrency (async/await, actors) and pragmatic UIKit and/or SwiftUI experience.
- Proven track record shipping and operating at least one large-scale, consumer- or enterprise-grade iOS app, with ownership across design, implementation, release, and post-launch iteration.
- Experience designing modular architectures (e.g., MVVM/C, Clean, TCA) and evolving legacy codebases safely through migrations.
- Deep performance and reliability skills: profiling with Instruments, launch-time tuning, memory/leak debugging and network efficiency.
- Secure mobile development: Keychain, biometrics, secure storage, TLS/ATS, certificate pinning and data-protection best practices.
- Experience with background tasks, conflict resolution, data modeling, and migration strategies.
- API and contract design: strong REST/GraphQL/gRPC fundamentals, versioning, pagination, and close collaboration with backend services on auth and performance.
- Testing at scale: XCTest/XCUITest, snapshot tests, dependency injection for testability, quality gates for CI/CD pipelines.
- Observability: Logging, crash analytics, dashboards/alerting, and SLO-driven ownership.
- Build and release engineering: Fastlane/Xcode Cloud/Bitrise, code signing/provisioning, TestFlight, phased rollouts, feature flags, and rollback plans.

Senior Software Engineer, Mobile, iOS

We are looking for a collaborative, customer-committed, and creative Senior Software Engineer, Mobile to join our iOS SDK team, which includes talented developers in both Budapest and Cambridge. The role is ideal for someone who enjoys writing high quality software, pushing the edge of what mobile devices are capable of, and working on a global, data-driven platform with real impact on the world: making roads safer by making drivers better.
Responsibilities:
- Enhance mobile solutions to promote safe driving while engaging and delighting users • Experiment with various behavior modification strategies to improve driver behavior
- Build reliable background mobile data collection services critical for analysis of driver behavior • Solve complex problems and transform them into business solutions in collaboration with team members
- Analyze and translate business and functional specifications and change requests into technical specifications suitable for implementation
- Able to independently transform complex technical requirement into smaller implementable pieces; able to implement performant software solutions that are maintainable, scalable, reliable and testable
- Participate in code and design reviews
- Participate in the hiring process
- Guide junior developers on proper software development procedures and methods
- Follow company defined development and operational standards and processes
- Provide on-call support during business critical emergency scenarios. Support and troubleshoot production issues as needed.
- Complete any additional tasks as they arise
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience and/or certification in a related field
- 4+ years of relevant development experience
- Ability to do general development tasks on Linux and MacOS
- Able to troubleshoot issues by analyzing logs
- Experience building adaptive user interfaces
- Experience with different application architectures such as Model-View-Controller, MVVM, and VIPER
- Understanding of Agile development methodologies (specifically SCRUM)
- Experience consuming and/or designing REST APIs
- Experience with automated testing techniques (e.g. unit tests, integration tests)
- Proficient in both Swift and Objective-C with a strong understanding of concurrency concepts
- Familiarity with iOS Frameworks and development using XCode
- Experience with Combine and SwiftUI
- Familiarity with third-party iOS libraries
- Solid knowledge of cocoapods or Swift Package Manager
Nice to haves:
The following are not required but will strengthen a candidate's application.
- Actively uses AI coding tools in development work, can critically evaluate AI-generated code for logical errors, edge cases, and security or reliability risks, and can explain and take full ownership of any code incorporated into their work.
- Previous experience developing and maintaining SDKs or mobile platforms consumed by external developers, including managing API versioning, backward compatibility, and developer ergonomics.
- Experience with mobile observability practices, including custom logging pipelines, crash reporting, and metrics collection with low overhead on devices.

Base Salary Range:
- The gross base yearly salary range for this position is: 18,306,300 to 22,882,900 HUF. This range is specifically for Budapest, Hungary.
