Job Summary

We are seeking a highly experienced Software Development Engineer in Test (19742) with a strong background in data quality, analytics testing, and data engineering validation within the insurance industry. This role focuses on ensuring high-quality data across modern data platforms by defining, implementing, and maintaining robust testing strategies across the full data lifecycle—from raw ingestion to curated analytical layers. The ideal candidate demonstrates technical leadership, continuous improvement, and strong collaboration with engineering and business stakeholders.

Responsibilities and Duties

• Develop and maintain end-to-end dbt testing frameworks, including mocked and expected datasets across bronze, silver, and gold layers;
• Define, implement, and maintain dbt models, unit tests, end-to-end tests, and custom test cases;
• Analyze engineering and analytics requirements to determine appropriate testing scope and strategies;
• Collaborate closely with business stakeholders, Data Engineers (DEs), and Analytics Engineers (AEs) to define testing needs and ensure data quality alignment;
• Gain a deep understanding of the repositories, tools, and workflows, including VSCode, pytest, dbt, Databricks, Git, Docker, and CI/CD processes;
• Investigate failed tests, perform root cause analysis, and support defect resolution;
• Review pull requests to ensure adherence to testing standards and data quality best practices;
• Actively participate in Agile ceremonies, providing quality insights and recommendations;
• Identify opportunities for process optimization, automation, and efficiency improvements while aligning quality efforts to business value;
• Demonstrate leadership by mentoring team members and promoting best practices in Quality Engineering.

Essential Skills

• Experience in Quality Engineering, with a strong focus on data-centric testing;
• Proven experience working within the insurance industry (required);
• Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, ETL processes, and BI platforms;
• Solid knowledge of testing strategies, the Test Pyramid, and version control systems;
• Proficiency in SQL and scripting languages such as Python;
• Demonstrated ability to drive continuous improvement across technology, processes, and people.

Highly Desirable Skills

• Hands-on experience designing and executing data validation strategies across complex data pipelines;
• Ability to translate business and analytical requirements into effective testing solutions;
• Experience supporting enterprise-scale data platforms with a strong emphasis on data accuracy, reliability, and compliance;
• Comfortable working in fast-paced, Agile environments.

About the Role

Platform Science is seeking a skilled and proactive Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to contribute to the quality of our growing software products. You will independently design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks and test scripts. Integrating quality into our CI/CD pipeline and collaborating closely with development teams, you will play a key role in ensuring the delivery of reliable and performant software solutions.

Responsibilities

• Independently design, develop, and maintain scalable and robust test automation frameworks and test scripts using programming languages (e.g., Python, Java, Kotlin, JavaScript/Typescript, Go).
• Integrate and enhance test automation within the CI/CD pipeline for continuous testing.
• Develop and execute automated tests for various layers of the application, including unit, integration, API, and UI tests.
• Collaborate effectively with software developers to understand software design and implementation, providing valuable feedback on testability.
• Participate in code reviews to identify potential quality issues and ensure adherence to coding standards.
• Build and maintain efficient test environments and manage test data effectively.
• Analyze test results, identify root causes of failures, and work collaboratively with the development team to implement solutions.
• Contribute to the improvement of our software development and testing processes and tools.
• Advocate for quality best practices within the development lifecycle.
• Monitor and analyze key quality metrics (e.g., test coverage, defect trends) to identify areas for improvement.
• Stay updated on relevant testing methodologies, tools, and technologies, and share knowledge within the team.
• Actively participate in agile ceremonies, providing valuable input on quality and testability.
• May contribute to performance and security testing efforts under guidance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
• 2-5 years of experience in software development and/or test automation.
• Strong programming skills in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, Java, Go).
• Proven experience in designing and implementing test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, JUnit, TestNG, PyTest).
• Experience with API testing tools (e.g., Postman, RestAssured).
• Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines (e.g., Jenkins, Github Actions , CircleCI).
• Solid understanding of software testing principles, methodologies, and the SDLC.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and debugging skills.
• Strong attention to detail and a commitment to delivering high-quality software.
• Good communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with performance testing basics (e.g., using tools like K6, JMeter).  
• Exposure to security testing concepts.
• Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP).
• Experience working in an agile development environment.
• Experience with AI Tools in Software Development (Gemini, Windsurf, Claude, etc.)
