Server Engineer - Star Trek Fleet Command

Scopely is looking for a Server Engineer to join our Star Trek Fleet Command team within our Live Games Portfolio division, based remotely in Spain.

We are seeking a backend Engineer to join our team and build both game server systems and platform microservices that power our live products. In this role, you will contribute to evolving our backend technology stack to support scalable game features, platform services, and a high-quality player experience, with the opportunity to develop your skills in distributed systems, cloud infrastructure, and game backend development while working on live products at scale.
What You Will Do
- Implement and maintain backend systems and microservices in Python running on AWS, contributing to reliability, scalability, performance, and secure communication between systems.
- Collaborate with game and platform teams to implement backend solutions aligned with product and technical requirements.
- Collaborate with client engineers to define, implement, and evolve backend APIs and service contracts that support gameplay and live features.
- Monitor services in production and help identify and resolve performance issues using logs, metrics, and observability tools.
- Help maintain backend resilience and security by following established best practices and guidelines.
- Work closely with QA and operations teams to deliver well-tested, observable, and reliable code to production.
- Participate in code reviews, design discussions, and team knowledge sharing.
- Deploy and monitor services in a cloud-native environment using AWS, containers, and CI/CD pipelines
What We're Looking For
- Understanding of web fundamentals (HTTP, REST APIs, request/response lifecycle, status codes, etc.).
- Familiarity with distributed systems concepts and microservices architectures, including service communication, data consistency, and fault tolerance in high-traffic environments.
- Proficiency in Python and familiarity with frameworks such as FastAPI, Flask, or Tornado, and an understanding of async programming and concurrency.
- Experience working with and maintaining existing backend systems in production environments.
- Experience debugging issues in production environments, identifying and helping resolve performance issues
- Understanding of SQL and/or NoSQL databases (e.g., MySQL, Postgres, DynamoDB).
- Familiarity with Linux environments, Docker containers, and cloud platforms (preferably AWS).
- Understanding of backend security fundamentals and willingness to learn best practices.
- Experience with version control, CI/CD pipelines, and automated testing.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with client engineers and cross-functional teams to deliver end-to-end features.
- Strong problem-solving skills and eagerness to learn and grow as an engineer.

- Exposure to Redis (including Redis Cloud / ElastiCache).
- Familiarity with messaging systems (RabbitMQ, Kafka, AWS SQS, or Redis Streams).
- Experience with observability and debugging tools (e.g., Datadog, Kibana, tracing systems). Experience working with APIs and understanding service contracts and client-server integration.

What You Will Do
- Work in a team responsible for designing, developing and maintaining backend services and APIs in Python running on AWS
- Design and implement new features in our core technologies, working collaboratively with other stakeholder teams to understand requirements and identify the best technical solutions as well as plan the future of our server core technologies that will lay the foundation for exciting new gameplay features
- Inspect the performance of our server clusters and propose improvements
- Deep analysis of player behaviors and how our server can be hardened to both improve player experience and also defend against bad actors (botters, cheaters, etc)
- Work closely with the QA team to resolve bugs and deliver high quality code as well as Deploy, monitor, and manage applications in a cloud environment such as AWS
- Stay up-to-date with industry changes and emerging trends, especially regarding Python, Redis and its ecosystem, AWS, Gaming, etc
What We’re Looking For
- Highly experienced being part of a professional development team or other relevant area
- Experience in developing highly available back-end systems and servers for large-scale MMO games, high-traffic web systems or applications
- Experienced with Python and its ecosystem (libraries, frameworks, etc.), familiarity with web frameworks such as Flask, Tornado, FastAPI, or another similar web framework and Python threading, as well as the principles of async programming
- Familiar in design and implementation of highly-scalable, reliable, and secure systems using Redis and its ecosystem, such as Redislabs. Solid understanding of RESTful API design and development. Ability to write efficient low-latency, low-IO code
- Strong knowledge of Linux operating systems and Docker containers, as well as Redis, MySQL (or similar database systems). Good understanding of how to prevent intrusions, injections, cheating etc.
- Experience in version control, especially multi-track development and familiarity with deployments methodologies and CI/CD pipelines as well as automated testing
- Experience with stateful and stateless game server architectures

Join the User Acquisition MLOps team that builds the core ML backbone of Appodeal. We design and run the systems that power real-time predictions at massive scale, where every millisecond matters. Our work directly drives thousands of bidding operations each second, supporting a high‑throughput, low‑latency inference platform used across the company.
You will help shape and evolve a modern ML platform built around Databricks, MLflow, Unity Catalog, GitHub Actions, and deep integrations with our Predictor service. This means solving real engineering challenges: scaling training pipelines, optimizing GPU workloads, ensuring safe and automated model promotions, and keeping online inference reliable under extreme load.
You will collaborate daily with Data Science, Data Engineering, Runtime, DevOps, and Product, and you will fully own the systems and projects you touch. This is a role for engineers who like autonomy, impact, and building things that matter.
Responsibilities:
- Design, operate, and improve the ML platform, including Databricks workflows for training, MLflow and Unity Catalog for model management, CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions and Databricks Asset Bundles, and integration with the runtime inference layer.
- Support data scientists in developing and maintaining end-to-end training pipelines, covering data processing, feature transformations, ML model training on GPUs, and distributed training setups to ensure efficient and scalable workflows.
- Ensure reliable and safe model inference by validating models before promotion, checking metadata compatibility, monitoring latency, and supporting model evaluation flows.

We’re hiring a Senior Python Engineer to help build Conversational AI inside Manychat — a production system that enables creators to manage high-volume Instagram conversations at scale. This team is solving that problem by building AI-powered experiences that help creators respond faster, convert more leads, and focus on growing their business. Your work will directly influence how conversations turn into measurable business outcomes.

We collaborate closely with AI Experts, Product Managers, Designers — contributing to architecture, delivery, and reliability decisions that drive speed, stability, and impact.
WHAT YOU'LL DO 🚀
- Design, build, and scale AI-powered backend services embedded directly into the Manychat platform.
- Architect scalable, async Python services operating in high-load, production environments.
- Integrate LLM providers (OpenAI, Azure-hosted models, etc.) with a strong focus on reliability, latency, and cost-efficiency.
- Design and maintain internal and external APIs, ensuring scalability and resilience.
- Own features end-to-end — from discovery and technical design through production deployment, monitoring, and iteration.
- Make architectural decisions that balance speed, scalability, and long-term maintainability.
- Ensure production reliability through strong observability practices (monitoring, logging, alerting).
- Implement and maintain high-quality unit and integration test coverage.
- Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and continuously improve release processes.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Design, AI experts, and Platform teams in a Scrum environment.
- Connect engineering decisions to measurable product and business impact.
TO SHINE IN THIS ROLE 💥
You’ll need:
- 5+ years of commercial Python development in production environments.
- Strong expertise in modern Python frameworks (FastAPI preferred; Django/Flask acceptable).
- Solid experience designing and integrating APIs (including third-party services).
- Strong understanding of async programming and concurrency (AsyncIO, non-blocking I/O).
- Experience working with PostgreSQL and large datasets.
- Experience building and maintaining high-load backend systems.
- Strong testing practices (unit and integration tests; PyTest preferred).
- Experience with CI/CD pipelines and Docker.
- Strong ownership and product mindset — able to align with stakeholders and connect engineering work to business impact.
It would be great if you have:
- Experience integrating LLMs or AI/ML features into production systems.
- Understanding of AI/ML concepts applied in real-world products.
- Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Google Cloud, Azure).
- Experience with containerization (Docker).
- Familiarity with observability tools (Grafana, Prometheus).
- Experience with Meta or TikTok APIs.
- Exposure to distributed systems architecture.
