About the Internship
Our Fall internship provides a hands-on experience in the fast-paced and exciting semiconductor industry. Our interns will work alongside industry projects and gain valuable insights into our core engineering roles. This program is designed to grow and shape the industry leaders of tomorrow, offering a chance to learn, develop and build the skills needed for a successful career in the semiconductor field.
What to expect
This position is a paid internship that is expected to start August/September 2026 and continue through November/December 2026. The duration will be 12 weeks, full time and on-site. Our internship program is for students who are actively enrolled in a full-time academic program. Recent graduates seeking employment after graduation and not returning to school should apply for our Early Career opportunities.

What You’ll Do
As a Simulation Intern at ASM, you will support simulation, DOE studies and predictive reduce-order modeling to accelerate semiconductor engineering analysis
What You’ll Bring
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD degree in Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a closely related field
- Strong background in numerical modeling and simulation
- Experience with CFD and/or multi-physics simulation tools preferred
- Familiarity with DOE, data analysis, and scripting (Python, MATLAB, or similar)
- Exposure to or interest in model reduction techniques (e.g., ROMs, surrogate modeling)
- Strong analytical thinking and problem-solving skills

As a Process Productivity Engineer at ASM, you will work with our customers as a system level expert focused on product support for new product development. This role will require 25-50% domestic and international travel (depending on product cycle).
Responsibilities:
- Drives and owns top customer productivity issues (e.g., defect reduction, tool matching, tool availability, etc.) for products in the field across the product life cycle, from new product introduction through high volume manufacturing.
- Interaction with Hardware, Electrical, Controls, Product Support, Process, and Software engineering teams to become the system level expert on new products transferred to the field. Become an expert on the interaction of the products with the customer processes and resulting tool productivity.
- Provides guidance to engineering during the design phase of new products on key customer requirements and needs, including productivity specifications (e.g., defects, tool matching, throughput, etc.) and process best practices.
- Designs and conducts experiments, in addition to measuring and interpreting experimental output, aimed at fulfilling stated objectives using Design of Experiments (DOE) and Response Surface Methodology (RSM).
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and is personally and actively engaged in problem via “hands-on” modalities.
- Owns marathon qualification of new processes and products in the development lab, including data collection, analysis, and improvement plans. Works closely with Process, Product Support, and Hardware engineering teams providing real time feedback of marathon issues and recommended solutions.
- Ensure processes follow best known practices throughout the product life cycle, from before the first eval shipment through the HVM ramp. Share and proliferate new solutions across internal teams, including Process, Product Support, and Field Support engineering teams.
Education and Requirements:
- Master’s or PhD Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree.
- Hands-on and/or course work experience with hardware.
- Strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
- Demonstrated ability to characterize processes and/or hardware using first principles and experimental design techniques (e.g., DOE, RSM).
- High motivation, enthusiasm and curiosity to learn.
- Interested in working with new products, testing them and becoming a system level expert.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to clearly communicate advanced technical constructs in direct and concise manner.
- Statistical analysis and script writing in Python, Matlab, or similar is a plus.
- Ability to travel (domestic and international) 25-50%

Job’s mission
What you will be working on
- Design and develop electromechanical systems integrating robotics with advanced control architectures.
- Implement visual-aided closed-loop control systems with real-time motion adjustment.
- Apply image processing algorithms using OpenCV, MATLAB, or similar libraries to guide robotic motion.
- Develop and tune servo control systems for precision and stability.
- Program and deploy control software for robotic platforms and embedded controllers (C/C++, Python, ROS).
- Develop, debug, and maintain PLC programs using Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Beckhoff platforms.
- Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, and software teams for seamless integration.
- Participate in prototyping, testing, validation, and field deployment.
- Document system architecture, design decisions, and performance metrics.
- Provide technical support for troubleshooting and maintenance.
What we are looking for
- BS in Robotics, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 12+ years of experience; MS with 8+ years; PhD with 4+ years.
- Proven expertise in control systems, including PID tuning, kinematics, and dynamic modeling.
- Hands-on experience with machine vision and image processing.
- Strong background in servo drive configuration and motor control.
- Proficiency in control software development for embedded and real-time systems.
- Experience with PLC programming and industrial communication protocols.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work independently or in teams.
- Strong communication skills for documentation and collaboration.
What sets you apart
- Familiarity with robotic frameworks such as ROS and tools like MATLAB/Simulink, LabVIEW, or TwinCAT.
- Knowledge of low-level communication interfaces (CAN bus, I2C, SPI, UART).
- Basic mechanical design principles and CAD tools.
- Experience with sensor integration (cameras, LIDAR, proximity sensors) and real-time data processing.
- Skills in actuator control and trajectory planning.
- Knowledge of semiconductor manufacturing processes and automation requirements.
- Experience with industrial robots or willingness to learn these applications.
