Position Summary

We are seeking an experienced Senior Manager of Configuration Engineering to lead configuration strategy and execution for our Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) product portfolio. This is a people manager role responsible for defining scalable product structures, driving configuration governance, and leading a team that ensures seamless translation of engineering designs into manufacturable, orderable systems.

This role serves as a critical interface between Engineering, Order Fulfillment, Manufacturing, and Sales Operations, enabling high-quality, on-time delivery of complex semiconductor equipment. Qualifications

Required

• Master’s degree in an Engineering discipline
• 8–10+ years of experience in configuration management, product line engineering, or systems engineering within the semiconductor equipment industry.

The primary responsibility of this role is to manage and drive the process engineering function for a key product group in the ASM’s Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) technology with a focus on results. This will require a strong leader that is highly skilled in people, process and technology across ASM’s ALD operations. Further, the role requires someone who is not only skilled in R&D/Innovation, development, engineering and design for manufacturability, but also someone who is adept at process and organization, continuous improvement and working with and managing people across cultural dimensions in developing and delivering the ALD technology roadmap. A persistent approach to Product Life Cycle (PLC) will be required to achieve strong engagement with the team, develop and implement new processes and organization, and manage the team to achieve PLC deliverables and drive projects to completion, exceeding timelines and budgetary objectives. This position facilitates getting ASM products to market as quickly as possible by directly influencing and communicating with key customers to solve their high value problems. The successful candidate will have a track record of recruiting and developing industry leading process engineering teams. 

Specific Responsibilities:  

• Run the day-to-day management of the key product process engineering teams with an emphasis on results. 

• Set, evangelize, and implement ASM processes. 

• Collaborate with the KPU head to set the vision for the technology and roadmap. 

• Embody ASM’s mission and values, and consistently reinforce them with the team through everyday actions. 

• Develop and deliver the technology roadmap and execute on the product roadmap in collaboration with GPM and KPU Head. 

• Lead Product Lifecycle Cycle (PLC) team in developing and delivering next generation systems to the market.

• Provide support for existing products and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:  

• Master’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Physics or Mechanical Engineering or related field, required. PhD preferred. 

• At least 12 years of experience in semiconductor equipment development (CVD, ALD preferred).

As a Senior Engineer II, Mechanical Engineering at ASM, you will play a pivotal role in design and development of high‑precision ALD chamber and semiconductor equipment systems. In this role, you will apply solid mechanical engineering fundamentals to solve complex design challenges, support new product development, and ensure reliable transition from design to manufacturing. Working closely with cross‑functional teams, you will help drive product quality, performance, and innovation. 

What you will be working on 

• Design and develop mechanical systems and components for semiconductor equipment, applying sound engineering principles, product specifications, and research data. 
• Perform engineering calculations related to structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics to support robust and reliable designs. 
• Create and maintain Creo Parametric 3D CAD models and detailed drawings, ranging from individual parts to complex assemblies. 
• Evaluate the feasibility of product proposals, resolve technical issues, and develop new designs in compliance with product safety and design standards.

The Key Account Technologists are the ASM product experts who support extensive customer and internal company contacts while driving the introduction of new products, product improvements, and product modifications.  As a Key Account Technologist (KAT) you'll help to expand product market share by helping win development tool of record (DTOR) selections and supporting competitive process application performance of the installed base. Further, the role requires someone who is not only skilled in R&D/Innovation, development, engineering, and design for manufacturability, but also someone who can be a key team member developing and delivering the ALD technology roadmap. This role requires interactions and communication between the product development team and the customer to ensure customer issues and concerns are being addressed with solutions and timelines.  A persistent approach to Product Life Cycle (PLC) will also be required to achieve strong engagement with the new product development team. This position requires Korean, Japanese or Mandarin language skills.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Responsible for process application NPI (New Product Introduction), product improvements, and product modifications for key product unit (KPU) installed base
• Develop and maintain relationships with key customers.
• Responsible for managing all the technical account aspects of customers
• Responsible for resolution of process and hardware-related escalations in the field
• Responsible for defining, maintaining, and implementing BKM process for all process applications – including standards, specs, and recipes, installed base performance

Key SELECTION CRITERIA:

• Excellent Korean, Japanese, or Mandarin language skills, both written and spoken

As a Senior Process Engineer at ASM, you will work with semiconductor processing and analytical equipment to research, develop and optimize processes focused on oxidation, annealing, curing, Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD) for logic, memory, analog, power, and MEMS applications. You will design and conduct complex experiments, measurements and perform the interpretation of complex experimental output. While you deliver creative and inventive solutions, technical publications, and generation of Intellectual Property (IP) are an essential function of this position. This position requires Korean, Japanese or Mandarin speaking skills.

As a Process Productivity Engineer at ASM, you will work with our customers as a system level expert focused on product support for new product development. This role will require 25-50% domestic and international travel (depending on product cycle).

Responsibilities: 

• Drives and owns top customer productivity issues (e.g., defect reduction, tool matching, tool availability, etc.) for products in the field across the product life cycle, from new product introduction through high volume manufacturing.  
• Interaction with Hardware, Electrical, Controls, Product Support, Process, and Software engineering teams to become the system level expert on new products transferred to the field. Become an expert on the interaction of the products with the customer processes and resulting tool productivity.
• Provides guidance to engineering during the design phase of new products on key customer requirements and needs, including productivity specifications (e.g., defects, tool matching, throughput, etc.) and process best practices.
• Designs and conducts experiments, in addition to measuring and interpreting experimental output, aimed at fulfilling stated objectives using Design of Experiments (DOE) and Response Surface Methodology (RSM).
• Troubleshoots equipment problems and is personally and actively engaged in problem via “hands-on” modalities.
• Owns marathon qualification of new processes and products in the development lab, including data collection, analysis, and improvement plans. Works closely with Process, Product Support, and Hardware engineering teams providing real time feedback of marathon issues and recommended solutions.
• Ensure processes follow best known practices throughout the product life cycle, from before the first eval shipment through the HVM ramp. Share and proliferate new solutions across internal teams, including Process, Product Support, and Field Support engineering teams.

Education and Requirements:

• Master’s or PhD Degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Chemistry, Physics, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related degree.
• Hands-on and/or course work experience with hardware.
• Strong technical troubleshooting and root cause analysis skills.
• Demonstrated ability to characterize processes and/or hardware using first principles and experimental design techniques (e.g., DOE, RSM).
• High motivation, enthusiasm and curiosity to learn.
• Interested in working with new products, testing them and becoming a system level expert.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with ability to clearly communicate advanced technical constructs in direct and concise manner.
• Statistical analysis and script writing in Python, Matlab, or similar is a plus.
• Ability to travel (domestic and international) 25-50%

As a Senior Process Engineer at ASM, you will work with semiconductor processing and analytical equipment to research, develop and optimize processes focused on oxidation, annealing, curing, Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD, PEALD), Epitaxy or PECVD for logic, memory, analog, power, and MEMS applications. You will design and conduct complex experiments, measurements and perform the interpretation of complex experimental output. While you deliver creative and inventive solutions, technical publications, and generation of Intellectual Property (IP) are an essential function of this position. This job posting is for applicants with 2+ years of industry work experience. 

Key Responsibilities 

• Creative problem solver with experience in developing new films for emerging applications and experience in chemistry/materials characterization.
• Works with semiconductor processing equipment to research, develop and optimize unit processes focused on the deposition of metal and dielectric films via ALD, PEALD, Epitaxy, and/or PECVD.
• Bringing innovative ideas, staying abreast of state-of-the-art processing applications in the semiconductor industry to be effective.
• Process consulting and accountability including technical papers on advanced process applications and Intellectual Property creation.
• Participates in and drives technical problem-solving sessions using the related scientific method and industry tools, such as Ishikawa diagrams.
• Designs and conducts experiments, in addition to measuring and interpreting experimental output, aimed at fulfilling stated objectives using Design of Experiments (DOE) and Response Surface Methodology (RSM).
• Troubleshoots equipment problems and is personally and actively engaged in problem via “hands-on” modalities.
• Works with customers and central marketing to understand and define requirements to successfully execute and document customer demonstrations.
• Develops methods and techniques for integrating metal and/or oxide films into existing and future device technologies.
• Ensures successful product transfer to customer base by performing demonstrations, training field service personnel, traveling to support remote sites (up to 10% travel required), and drafting documentation regarding process development, tool operation and maintenance.
• Produces technical papers on process, equipment, and device integration improvement strategies and presents to professional audience.
• You may be assigned supervisory duties over supporting process engineering technicians and aides. These supervisory duties could include direct input into employees’ performance evaluations, discipline, and discharge.

Qualifications

• Master’s or PhD degree in Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, Electrical Engineering, or Physics.
• 2+ years of work experience with:
  • Cure, oxidation, ALD, CVD, Epitaxy, PECVD and/or other thin film deposition.
  • Materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRR, XRD, TEM, SEM and ellipsometry.
• Knowledge of electrical characterization techniques for CMOS devices.
• Application of dielectric and/or metal films for logic and memory structures.
• Training in CFD (computational fluid dynamics), either theoretical or practical is preferred.
• Knowledge of electrical characterization techniques for CMOS devices is preferred.

  Skills

• Ability to independently manage complex process development projects, including personnel, project schedules, experimental thrusts, hardware procurement and budgetary oversight.
• Ability to be a process consultant to internal and external customers.
• An authority on interplay between hardware design (e.g., chemical reactor design) and operation and process outputs
• Understanding of requirements for integration of metals as work function materials and barrier layers in FEOL and BEOL process flows
• Demonstrated ability to develop and completely characterize deposition processes using first principles and experimental design techniques (e.g., DOE, RSM).
• Experience with the theory, practice, and interpretation of materials characterization techniques such as XPS, SIMS, RBS, AFM, XRD, HRTEM, FESEM, Auger, Raman and ellipsometry.

We are seeking R&D-oriented Engineers to join our team in the development and improvement of semiconductor manufacturing equipment, specifically focusing on plasma-based chambers.

Key Responsibilities:

· Conduct research and development of components and mechanisms, including concept creation, feasibility studies, and practical evaluation/testing.

· Perform hardware characterization, define process window, and analyze process-hardware interaction.

· Design experiments, collect data, analyze results, and compile reports on various process development experiments

· Develop new equipment and functionalities, as well as improve existing equipment, from specification to detailed design.

· Ability to function in multi-disciplined fields (Process development, Hardware development and Metrology)

Required Skills:

· PhD in Physics, Engineering (Chemical, Electrical, Mechanical, or related fields), Material Science or Master degree with at least 3 years professional experience.

· In-depth knowledge of low-pressure RF plasma systems, including ICP, CCP, and microwave plasma sources

· Strong understanding of plasma-surface interactions, and precursor/plasma chemistry. Familiarity with PECVD, PEALD, RIE process mechanisms.

· Excellent communication skills for technical documentation, cross-functional collaboration, and customer-facing discussions

Preferred Skills:

· Familiarity with epitaxial silicon growth and characterization

· Familiarity with EM and multi-physics simulation tools (e.g., COMSOL, High Frequency Simulation software such as Ansys HFSS, CST studio )

· Familiarity with plasma diagnostics (e.g., Langmuir probes, OES, VI probes)

· Familiarity with common thin-film & chemical characterization & metrology techniques including: SEM, TEM, XRD, Ellipsometry, XPS / AES as well as ICP-MS, particle analysis, sheet resistance probe analysis etc
