Companies Monumental OptiTrack Working Student

About the role

Monumental · Onsite

Monumental is automating on-site construction with robotics and software. Our mission is to make construction primarily software-defined and work towards a future where beautiful, bespoke buildings are built within a single day with minimal labour.

We’re a growing team (about 100 team members) of mostly engineers and technicians, coming from companies like Palantir, Qualcomm, Dyson, Shopify, Tesla, Meta and 1X. It’s still the early days of building the company, and this is a unique opportunity to be an early employee in a high-growth, high-ambition startup environment. From Day 1, you’ll be able to work with an experienced founding team backed by top-tier investors.

Monumental is based near Artis zoo in the Plantage, in the city center of Amsterdam. We have a beautiful office with an in-house workshop and robot testing facility. We’re explicitly not a hybrid or remote-first company: we enjoy collaborating 5 days a week at the office. You can read more on why we believe you should spend your time working on construction, and learn more about our vision and company. You might also enjoy seeing this video by Andreas Klinger of what our office environment looks like.

We're looking for a reliable working student to take ownership of our OptiTrack motion capture calibration process in the evenings and over weekends.

What you'll do

You'll take over from our engineering team at 5pm and run the show until 11pm, and run the entire process over the weekend from 10am to 4pm. That means driving our robots to and from the calibration area using a Nintendo-style nunchuk controller, carefully setting up the test space, starting and monitoring the automated calibration procedure, and logging any issues you encounter for our engineers to address.

A significant portion of the shift is supervised monitoring of an automated process, making it ideal for someone who wants to study or focus while on the clock, without being hands-off when it counts. We will train you up so your comfortable running calibrations alone: you’ll get to learn from our team of computer vision engineers who have invented our entire calibration process! Safety is important to us, so you will be responsible for locking up our HQ once done for the day.

What we're looking for

You're a night owl and someone we can count on: this is a non-negotiable. You have sharp attention to detail and take pride in doing things right. A background in software engineering or a related technical field is a plus, as is comfort around hardware and robotics setups.

We are unable to support relocation or sponsorship for this role. Applicants must be based in the Netherlands, eligible to work and able to commute onsite to Amsterdam to be considered.

Why this role

This is a rare chance to get hands-on experience inside one of Amsterdam's most exciting robotics startups. You'll be trusted with real equipment and real responsibility from day one.

You are also welcome to come in earlier than 5pm, on days were possible to study/work from our HQ before starting your shift and learn from some of the brightest minds.
