The Position
Wilson Elser seeks a Senior Scrum Master / Agile Project Manager with 7+ years of experience to lead cross-functional delivery for two Agile teams who are currently developing in-house practice of law software systems and unified data platforms. This role will drive Agile adoption within the firm, manage complex integrations, and apply formal project-management practices where appropriate to support successful product delivery. The ideal candidate blends strong Scrum coaching with practical PM discipline and experience supporting legal or professional services systems. Additionally, the ideal candidate needs to be adaptable, excel at facilitating change, and foster collaboration through servant-leadership.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and coach multiple agile delivery teams and facilitate scrum ceremonies to drive predictable delivery.
- Partner with Product Owners, IT, Legal Operations, and project sponsors to prioritize work, define scope, and maintain a well-refined backlog.
- Apply traditional project management practices (scope/schedule/cost/risk/change management) when projects require hybrid methodology.
- Manage cross-team dependencies, systems integrations, and database / data lake implementations.
- Track and report delivery metrics, roadmaps, release plans, and program status to technical and executive stakeholders.
- Remove impediments, resolve conflicts, and escalate risks; proactively manage stakeholder expectations and change requests.
- Drive continuous improvement through retrospectives, metrics-based improvements, and Agile coaching.
- Ensure quality, compliance, documentation, and operational readiness for production rollouts.
Qualifications
- 7+ years’ experience as a Scrum Master and/or Agile Project Manager leading multiple teams.
- Demonstrated success delivering complex software projects, including systems integrations and vendor implementations.
- Strong knowledge of Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban; SAFe or equivalents) and Agile metrics/diagnostics.
- Proven project management skills: planning, risk management, dependency coordination, and change control.
- Experience operating in hybrid or non-Scrum environments and applying PMP-style governance when needed.
- Excellent communication, facilitation, stakeholder management, and executive reporting skills.
- Hands-on experience with Agile tooling (Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, or equivalent).
- Experience mentoring and developing other Agile practitioners.
- Bachelor’s degree and CSM, PSM II/III, CSP, SAFe SPC, or PMP.
- Experience with Aderant (or similar legal practice management/billing systems).
- Prior experience working in a law firm, legal operations, professional services, or legal-technology product environment.
- Familiarity with financial systems, ERPs, or billing system integrations.
- Experience with API-based integrations, ETL, or data migration projects.
- Certifications such as Advanced Certified Scrum Master (A-CSM), equivalent, or above.
- Exposure to DevOps practices, CI/CD, and release automation.
- Experience leading change management or organizational transformation programs.
Success Indicators:
- Improved sprint predictability and delivery throughput across supported teams.
- Clear reduction in unresolved cross-team impediments and faster escalation/resolution cycles.
- Successful delivery of at least one major release, and regular minor releases or systems integration (e.g., practice management, billing, or financial system) with minimal post-release issues.
- Positive stakeholder feedback from IT leadership; measurable improvement in team engagement.
