TEGNA Inc. (NYSE: TGNA) helps people thrive in their local communities by providing the trusted local news and services that matter most. With 64 television stations in 51 U.S. markets, TEGNA reaches more than 100 million people monthly across the web, mobile apps, streaming, and linear television. Producing experience is highly valued, but this role is ideal for anyone with strong editorial judgment, exceptional organization and a passion for bringing big ideas to life.
Responsibilities
• Coordinate and execute station-wide special coverage, including elections, major trials, breaking news events and other high-impact stories.
• Plan and organize First Coast News' signature community initiatives, including 12 Who Care, Stuff the Bus, the K9s For Warriors Telethon and other station events.
• Book compelling guests, experts and community voices for First Coast News and First Coast Living.
• Build and maintain strong relationships with community organizations, local leaders and subject matter experts.
• Develop long-range coverage plans and event timelines while coordinating logistics across multiple departments.
• Partner with newsroom leadership, producers, reporters, digital teams and marketing to execute strategic coverage plans.
• Research, develop and pitch enterprise story ideas, franchise content and special programming opportunities.
• Write clear production plans, briefing materials and supporting content for broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.
• Help coordinate live event coverage across broadcast, streaming and social media platforms.
• Ensure projects stay on schedule while balancing multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Continuously look for new opportunities to showcase impactful storytelling and strengthen First Coast News' connection with the community.
• Challenge traditional ways of covering major events by developing innovative storytelling and audience engagement strategies.
Requirements
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience.
• 3-5 years of experience in television news, content production, special projects or a related field.
• Previous newscast producing experience preferred.
• Exceptional organizational, planning and project management skills.
• Outstanding communication and relationship-building abilities.
• Strong editorial judgment and a news philosophy centered on accurate, fair and impactful local journalism.
• Experience coordinating multiple stakeholders and managing complex projects under deadline.
• Ability to anticipate needs, solve problems and adapt quickly as news events evolve.
• Strong writing and storytelling skills across broadcast, streaming and digital platforms.
• Understanding of professional journalism standards and ethical decision-making.
• Social media proficiency and an understanding of audience engagement across platforms.
• Experience with ENPS, Edius or similar newsroom systems preferred.
• Ability to remain calm and organized during breaking news and large-scale event coverage.
