About the role
Position: Estimator (Spray Seal)
Salary: PHP 87,000 - PHP 109,000/month (AU$2,000-AU$2,500/month)
Working Hours & Conditions: Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Sydney Time
OVERVIEW:
The Estimator (Spray Seal) is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for spray seal projects within the company's Seal division. Working from client-provided scopes and takeoff data, this role manages the full quoting cycle inside Salesforce — from reviewing project documentation and generating itemised cost breakdowns through to issuing quotes and maintaining records. The role requires a solid understanding of spray seal operations including bitumen binders, aggregate supply, crew and plant rates, and traffic management, and works closely with the Operations Manager and field teams to ensure estimates reflect real-world project conditions.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Estimating & Quote Generation
- Prepare detailed, accurate cost estimates for spray seal projects including binder type and application rates, aggregate size and supply costs, plant and equipment, labour, traffic management, and overhead.
- Use client-provided takeoff information and project documents to complete all required paperwork and generate quotes via Salesforce.
- Apply current market rates for bitumen, emulsion, and aggregate materials; factor in haulage, mobilisation, and site-specific conditions.
- Review and cross-check estimates before submission to ensure accuracy and competitiveness.
System & Documentation Management
- Work within Salesforce CRM to manage opportunities, track quote status, and maintain accurate records throughout the estimating pipeline.
- Maintain well-organised records of all estimates, assumptions, rate schedules, and correspondence for audit and review purposes.
- Issue quotes and follow-up correspondence to clients via email in a professional and timely manner.
Bid Preparation & Subcontractor Coordination
- Assist in the preparation of tender submissions and formal bids for spray seal contracts.
- Review and assess subcontractor and supplier proposals; validate rates against current market benchmarks.
- Liaise with plant operators, aggregate suppliers, and traffic management contractors to confirm pricing and availability.
Collaboration & Reporting
- Coordinate with the Operations Manager and field teams to clarify project scope, access conditions, traffic management requirements, and scheduling constraints.
- Provide regular updates on quote pipeline, win/loss outcomes, and estimating assumptions to the Estimating Manager.
- Identify and flag pricing risks, scope gaps, or unusual site conditions early in the estimating process.
Requirements
MUST HAVE:
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in estimating or operations within the spray seal, road construction, or civil pavement industry
- Solid working knowledge of spray seal operations — binder types (bitumen, emulsions), aggregate specifications, application rates, plant requirements, and crew compositions
- Understanding of traffic management requirements and their cost implications on spray seal projects
- Proficiency in Salesforce CRM or similar estimating/project management platforms
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for cost modelling, rate schedules, and quantity take-offs
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to produce clean, accurate estimates under deadline pressure
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills for client correspondence and internal reporting
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple quotes simultaneously, and adapt to shifting project priorities
PREFERRED SKILLS (NICE TO HAVE):
- Experience estimating for local council, RMS, or government road maintenance programs
- Familiarity with Australian standards and specifications for sprayed sealing works (AGPT/T190 or equivalent)
- Exposure to asphalt or civil construction estimating in addition to spray seal
- Experience using takeoff or measurement software
