CRA's European Competition practice specialises in providing economic advice on matters of competition policy and regulation. We assist firms and their legal advisors in all types of competition proceedings:  firms considering merger and acquisition opportunities or involved in merger control proceedings; and firms undergoing investigations relating to cartels, restrictive commercial agreements, abuse of dominance or state aid.  We also provide advice to firms involved in regulatory proceedings and sector inquiries. We offer assistance on the estimation effects of damages in cartel cases, international arbitration and intellectual property disputes.

Position Overview

The Senior Associate position is the entry-level position for applicants with a PhD in Economics and limited work experience. The Senior Associate position is also open to applicants with a Master of Economics and at least 3 years of relevant work experience, within economic consulting or with a competition authority. Candidates will be expected to rapidly take on genuine responsibility, working closely with senior consultants, scholars and industry experts on project teams, and will have the opportunity to immediately work on some of the largest, high-profile and most significant competition cases in Europe, providing conceptual and practical input to projects. A Senior Associate would typically:

  •  Conduct analyses and collect evidence from data and research that support our expert opinions and business recommendations
  •  Perform regression analyses in statistical analysis programs (such as Stata, Python, R), including large data projects requiring the use of cloud computing
  •  Build economic models tailored to the issues at hand and supporting our expert opinions and business recommendations
  •  Contribute to the development and presentation of client deliverables, including expert reports and white papers
  •  Interact with clients and communicate complicated economic concepts and arguments to non-experts in an understandable, accessible manner
  •  Manage and mentor junior staff
  • Ensure the integrity and accuracy of analyses and opinions
  • Participate in practice-building activities (training, recruiting, publication, expertise sharing, etc.)

Desired Qualifications

  • PhD in economics from a well-regarded institution with a strong foundation in microeconomics, preferably with a specialisation in industrial economics and/or econometrics; non-PhD applicants should have a Master of Economics and at least 3 years of relevant work experience, within economic consulting or with a competition authority
  • Fluency in English, other language skills are considered an asset
  • High degree of numeracy, ability to analyse data, familiarity with econometric techniques
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Strong teamwork and collaboration capabilities
  • Excellent time management and task prioritisation skills
  • Clear and demonstrated interest in economic consulting through coursework, work experience, or activities

Work Location Flexibility
