Argosy Collegiate Charter School

The Instructional Coach is a critical lever in improving student achievement. The role of the coach is to build teacher capacity and understanding of instructional practices in alignment with Massachusetts State Standards Standards. The student services’ instructional coach works closely with teachers to implement effective, high quality instructional methods. The student services’ instructional coach helps teachers to use data to support and inform instructional decisions, focusing on multi-lingual learners and scholars served through special education. An instructional coach models continuous improvement, lifelong learning, and goes above and beyond to ensure student success. Instructional coaches will provide support and feedback on co-teaching models and inclusion models, and with student services’ teachers in small groups. In collaboration with the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction, they are responsible for ensuring high-quality instruction in classrooms through modeling, co-planning, co-teaching and providing feedback to teachers. The instructional coach will demonstrate and model a passion for urban education reform and leadership, especially through the lens of multilingual learners and scholars serviced by an individual education plan.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Instructional Coach will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate.

Academic Achievement

  1. Support comprehensive curriculum implementation as set forth by the Directors of Curriculum and Instruction including unit planning, back-mapping, best-practices in teaching and co-teaching strategies, and differentiation to support all learners.
  2. Support the instructional development of all teachers in understanding the Massachusetts State Standards, high quality instructional materials and data analysis.
  3. In collaboration with Directors of Curriculum and Instruction, implement coaching cycles that leverage a range of coaching strategies aimed at developing teacher efficacy including classroom modeling, observation and feedback cycles, video-aided coaching, co-planning, and looking at scholar work.
  4. Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches. 
  5. Participate in MTSS to support the implementation of high quality instruction and curriculum across all tiers.
  6. Build strong relationships with teachers, administrators, and other coaches.
  7. Teach an ELA or Math-focused intervention block during Gator Hour
  8. Support co-teaching partnerships through shared goals and action steps to meet those goals.
  9. Promote the mission and vision of Argosy Collegiate through professional interactions and instructional design.
  10. Support teachers and administrators in using data to improve instruction.
  11. Assist teachers with planning and pacing of units of study, lessons, the development of differentiated lessons, and the selection of best practices to meet the needs of their students.
  12. Collaborate with teachers during their planning time to develop lessons and units that are framed by Universal Design for Learning principles. 
  13. Informally observe (non-evaluative) lessons and provide coaching for a teacher’s professional growth and students’ success.
  14. Create and share an articulated schedule with Directors of Curriculum and Instruction.
  15. Present on various topics, data, and initiatives to various stakeholders such as the Academic Achievement Committee, during Academic Achievement Meetings, and in staff meetings
  16. In collaboration with other coaches and instructional leaders, plan engaging, rich, meaningful professional development opportunities for teachers.

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree Required; Masters Degree preferred
  • MA Special Education and/or MLL licensure preferred
  • SEI endorsement required; significant experience with SEI strategies implementation across content areas
  • Experience implementing service delivery requirements as outlined in a scholars’ individualized education plan (IEP)
  • Alignment with Argosy Collegiate’s mission and vision for all scholars
  • 3+ Years of teaching experience, preferably in an urban or charter school setting with proven track record for closing the achievement gap
  • Experience collaborating with and leading teachers in implementing highly effective instructional strategies that benefit all learners
  • Ability to think and thrive in a fast-paced and entrepreneurial setting
  • Ability to think critically, problem-solve, backwards plan, analyze and use data, and action plan to positively impact academic achievement
  • Demonstrate highly effective organization and communication skills
  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect with all stakeholders 
  • Fluency in Spanish, Portuguese, or Haitian Creole preferred

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Support the safety, welfare, and supervision of students at all times while on school premises or engaged in school-sponsored activities; serve as a mandated reporter, promptly reporting any suspected abuse or neglect in accordance with state laws and school policy.
  • Model and uphold the School’s Code of Conduct, core values, and professional standards as outlined in the Employee Handbook; maintain appropriate, respectful, and professional relationships with students, families, and colleagues.
  • Maintain regular, reliable and punctual attendance according to the school’s established schedule, including special events, meetings, and required professional development sessions.
  • Demonstrate sufficient mobility and stamina to move throughout the school building 
  • Engage in work that requires frequent standing, walking, and occasional light lifting (up to 25 pounds).
  • Perform duties in various classroom and school environments, including outdoor supervision as needed.
  • Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and safe school environment.
