About the role
The Senior Accountant will play a critical role in supporting the accounting operations a Retirement Community during a period of significant transformation and growth. This is a hands-on accounting position for a highly motivated professional who thrives in fast-paced environments, takes ownership of deliverables, and consistently meets deadlines.
The ideal candidate is someone who built a strong accounting foundation early in their career, preferably through experience in a public accounting firm or small accounting practice, and has since developed solid full-cycle accounting experience. This individual must be proactive, detail-oriented, and committed to delivering accurate work on time without requiring constant follow-up.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform full-cycle accounting activities, including journal entries, reconciliations, accruals, and month-end close.
- Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and supporting schedules.
- Analyze financial transactions and identify discrepancies or unusual variances.
- Support monthly, quarterly, and year-end close processes.
- Maintain accurate accounting records and supporting documentation.
- Assist with financial statement preparation and reporting activities.
- Support internal and external audits.
- Collaborate with team members to resolve accounting issues and improve processes.
- Ensure all assigned deliverables are completed accurately and within established deadlines.
- Escalate risks, blockers, or missing information proactively rather than waiting until deadlines are missed.
- Contribute to process improvements and operational efficiencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Public Accounting
- Professional License (Cédula Profesional).
- 5-8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Strong full-cycle accounting experience.
- Hands-on experience with month-end close.
- Experience preparing and reviewing accruals, reconciliations, and journal entries.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
- Advanced Excel skills.
- Strong attention to detail and sense of ownership
Preferred
- Experience working in a small public accounting firm.
- Experience in audit, tax, or accounting services environments.
- Experience supporting multi-entity accounting operations.
