About the role
AI-Native Data Engineer @ TrueMeter
π SF Bay Area | Hybrid (3 days onsite, 2 remote)
About Us
Weβre building the AI Energy Agent thatβs becoming the default way any business pays for power and saves on energy.
The grid is breaking under the weight of AI and electrification β data centers are driving record demand, renewables are lagging, and energy costs are climbing 3x faster than inflation. Businesses are desperate for predictability and control.
TrueMeter fixes this. We turn messy, multi-utility bills into a single, cheaper, fixed-price subscription β powered by AI.
We launched our MVP in May 2024. Since then, weβve onboarded millions in energy bills from great brands and proven that what weβre buildingβ¦ works.
Weβre Stanford-alum founders backed by top Silicon Valley investors, growing fast, and hiring an elite set of AI-native engineers to help us scale.
The Role
Weβre looking for someone who loves building things from scratch β fast. Youβll own our data and AI infrastructure end-to-end: pipelines, databases, APIs, and the foundations for coding agents and LLM workflows.
Youβll work directly with the co-founder/CTO, helping shape how data moves through the company β from raw energy telemetry to real-world business impact.
This is a startup role in the truest sense: priorities change, speed matters, and the impact is huge.
Youβll Work On
Building high-reliability data pipelines and APIs to connect to dozens of utilities and public energy sources.
Architecting databases and ingestion systems for time-series energy data, billing, and telemetry.
Designing GCP infrastructure (e.g., BigQuery, Cloud SQL, Secret Manager) for scale and cost efficiency.
Building infra that allows coding agents and AI tools to automate workflows across the stack.
Setting up CI/CD, observability, and automation to keep us shipping fast and clean.
Documenting, communicating, and collaborating across tech + business β translating your work into impact metrics everyone can understand.
Who You Are
AI-native β curious, self-taught, and excited about pushing the boundaries of what LLMs and agents can do in real systems.
Nimble builder β you can ship an MVP in a short time, then iterate it into something robust.
First-principles thinker β you choose tools based on logic, not hype, and can build an efficient and cost-effective infrastructure.
Communicator β you can explain your work to both engineers and execs, and theyβll actually get it.
Independent executor β you donβt need handholding; you define, scope, and deliver.
Startup-aware β you know priorities will change, things will break, and thatβs part of the thrill.
Ambitious β you care deeply about impact and are willing to put in the work to want to help build something big.
If youβve built production data systems before (Python, TypeScript, GCP, SQL/NoSQL) and love learning new tools, youβll fit right in.
Why TrueMeter
Weβre early β which means youβll have real ownership, not just tasks. Youβll design systems that last, see your work ship in days (not quarters), and help shape a company whose vision is to redefine energy management for every business in America.
We move fast, we think from first principles, and we care deeply about impact β on customers, the grid, and the planet.
If that sounds like your kind of challenge, weβd love to talk.
