About the role
A. Morton Thomas and Associates, Inc. (AMT), an employee owned consultant engineering firm, is seeking a Senior Survey Crew Chief to join our Team in Richmond, VA office.
The Candidate will work directly with local survey managers having extensive experience performing construction stakeout in the Richmond area. The survey field team utilizes Leica survey equipment including Robotic Total Stations, GPS-RTK Smartnet, Digital Leveling, and Terrestrial Laser Scanning to perform field data collection and stakeout services.
Salary
$30-$38 per hour with optional overtime
Company Truck - Direct travel from home to jobsite w/ occasional office check-ins. AMT has developed a reliable system of allowing field staff the ability to direct travel to and from the jobsite. This allows for a flexible work life balance while still accomplishing our project goals. Occasional office visits are used for project kickoffs and debriefs.
Responsibilities
• Provide office support for the preparation of cutsheets and stakeout exhibits
• Prepare accurate daily notes, records, and sketches to describe work performed.
• Candidate will also perform boundary, topographic, and as-built surveys and other related duties as assigned
• Lead and mentor junior crew members in the field to ensure quality and safety standards.
• Collaborate with project managers, contractors, and design teams to interpret plans and resolve field challenges.
• Ensure adherence to safety protocols and AMT procedures on all job sites.
Qualifications
• Must have experience in construction stakeout field surveying procedures
• Experience operating Robotic Total Station and data collector. Prior experience with Leica robotic total stations and data collectors is strongly preferred
• Experience operating GPS-RTK equipment.
• Experience with AutoCAD, iPad, and Office Suite applications is a plus
• Demonstrated leadership experience in the field managing a field crew
• Strong communication skills—verbal and written—for client and team interactions.
• Proven ability to adapt to dynamic construction environments and troubleshoot on-site.
• Positive attitude and professional bearing.
• OSHA certification
• Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
