POSITION GOAL: 

The Category Supervisor is responsible for the supervision, coaching and support of a team of buyers or coordinators executing category strategies, and managing supplier relationships to achieve cost, service, and quality objectives. Owns category performance and drives continuous improvement initiatives.

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Supervise and coach a team of Buyers; manage performance, development, and workload distribution.
  • Takes ownership of the long-term contract bidding process, actively pursues and negotiates with suppliers to secure competitive costs for the bid process.
  • Understands strategic supply agreements and actively engages to manage and enhance existing agreements and works with category manager to execute new agreements that bring value to the organization.
  • Execute category strategies as defined by the Category Manager; ensure alignment with cost, service, and quality objectives.
  • Lead procurement activities for assigned category including supplier performance, cost management, and tactical negotiations.
  • Act as primary contact for suppliers within the category; build collaborative relationships and resolve escalations.
  • Take an active role in limiting escalations due to supplier disruptions.
  • Monitor and report on KPIs and supplier scorecards; drive performance improvements.
  • Support sourcing team in managing obsolescence and supply constraints; validate alternatives before handoff.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (Customer Service, Inventory Planning, Operations, Manufacturing) to ensure supply chain efficiency.
  • Conduct supplier site visits and participate in trade shows as needed.
  • Present quarterly category reviews and contribute to annual planning objectives.
  • Ensure compliance with procurement policies and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with supporting departments (Inventory Planning, Traffic & Customs, and Warehouse Operations) to ensure optimal service levels and Supply Chain performance.

Requirements

  • Post-secondary education in Business, Supply Chain management or related field.
  • 3-5 years’ experience in supply chain, procurement, or strategic sourcing
  • Some leadership experience
  • Strong Leadership skills, excellent written and verbal communication skills, self-motivated, strong organizational and analytic skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Intermediate to Advanced Excel skills, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word). 
  • Knowledge of Oracle is an asset.
