About the role
What this role is
This is not a traditional Strategy role.
You'll lead YouTube strategy for one of the world's fastest-growing content creation platforms as we build their channel into a core hub of content. This is a high-profile engagement focused on creator-first programming, product education, and long-form content. The engagement is initially scoped through the summer content window, with strong potential to extend into future quarters as the channel scales.
You are a YouTube native. You've built channels and grown audiences, and you understand the platform from the inside out. You know how the algorithm rewards content, what drives watch time and retention, how packaging and publishing cadence move the needle, and what separates content that performs from content that doesn't. You pair that platform fluency with genuine creative instincts for what makes long-form content worth watching.
You are comfortable in the gray. You bring structure where it's needed, push when it matters, and stay close enough to the work to keep the quality bar high. You are energized by the intersection of creators, content, education, and product storytelling, and you know how compelling long-form content builds both audience engagement and brand affinity.
Location: Remote. Proximity to the internal team in Los Angeles is a plus. There is no expectation to work from a physical office, though candidates who prefer a hybrid or in-office environment are welcome.
This position is estimated at up to 20 hours per week, starting as soon as possible and will go through September 30, 2026 with a potential to extend.
What You'll Own
YouTube Strategy & Content Approach
- Define the channel architecture — how the channel is organized, what content pillars it's built on, and how it grows over time.
- Develop the approach for the core content systems: an educational/tutorial system, a creator-led long-form approach, and a creator showcase approach.
- Set packaging and publishing recommendations — titles, thumbnails, descriptions, playlists, cadence, and rollout — grounded in what the platform rewards.
- Build the rollout plan across the content window, with a view toward future quarters.
- Review briefs and source materials, and lead workshops and working sessions to align the team and client.
Content Development & Execution
- Lead concepting and development of tutorial content — topic refinement, episode framing, recommended formats, scripting, and edit direction for long-form 16:9 episodes.
- Lead creator content concepting for long-form creator episodes — story outlines, script and episode structure, edit guidance, and creative visual inputs.
- Own creator showcase packaging — titles, thumbnail direction, descriptions, playlist placement, and creator crediting.
- Carry concepts through multiple internal and client review rounds, keeping quality high and feedback moving.
Collaboration & Operating Rhythm
- Partner closely with the account lead, project management, creative, and production to translate strategy into work that ships.
- Participate in a standing weekly client status meeting (5:30–6:30pm PT) and an internal scrum, supplemented by ad hoc working sessions and written communication through the client's preferred platforms.
- Surface risks and opportunities early, and bring solutions, not just flags.
- Navigate ambiguity with confidence in an environment where direction evolves and strong translation into execution matters.
Requirements
What you bring
- A demonstrated track record of building and growing YouTube channels — you can point to channels and audiences you've helped grow.
- Deep, current knowledge of the YouTube platform: how the algorithm works, what drives discovery, watch time, and retention, and what works versus what doesn't.
- Command of both the mechanics (packaging, thumbnails, titles, publishing cadence, analytics) and the content approach (formats, storytelling, and editorial that holds an audience).
- Experience developing long-form content and/or creator-led programs, ideally including educational or tutorial content.
- Strong concepting and editorial instincts, with the ability to give clear edit and format direction.
- Clear, confident communication across presentations, written communication, and client conversations.
- Comfort in fast-moving environments where priorities evolve and ambiguity is part of the process.
- Experience working with global stakeholders across time zones and navigating cross-cultural working relationships is a plus.
What makes someone successful here
- You lean in, not back. You don't wait for direction, you create it.
- You care about the work, not just the process, and stay close enough to elevate it.
- You can zoom out to see the bigger picture, and zoom in to fix what's broken.
- You build real relationships, internally and externally.
- You know how to balance being strategic, scrappy, and steady all at once.
