About the Opportunity
We are seeking a Junior Backend Engineer to join the Data Ingestion Team within the Platform Engineering Domain. This is an exciting opportunity for an early-career engineer to grow their skills building high-throughput data processing systems.
Platform Engineering's mission is to provide trusted, performant, and self-service platforms. As part of this, the Data Ingestion team is responsible for building and maintaining the pipelines that power our bank's data ecosystem, focusing on reliability, scalability, and clean engineering practices.

In this role, you will:
- Software Development: Work under the guidance of senior engineers to develop and maintain backend services for our data ingestion platform.
- Engineering Support: Support the team in applying strong engineering practices including writing automated tests, participating in code reviews, and maintaining observability.
- Proactive Learning: Proactively ask questions, propose small improvements, and collaborate with the team to deliver clean, testable code for our platform services.
- Knowledge Sharing: Participate in technical discussions, contribute to internal documentation, and help us maintain a transparent knowledge base.
- Development Contribution: Contribute to infrastructure development tasks and participate in technical demos to showcase your work.
- Shadow and Respond: Shadow on-call rotations and assist in troubleshooting efforts to learn incident response protocols.
- Observability Support: Learn to maintain and use observability solutions (metrics, logging, tracing) to help the team track platform SLOs and availability.
What you need to be successful
Background and Skills:
- Strong foundational backend skills, with a preference for Kotlin or Java, and a willingness to adapt to the language best suited for the task.
- Exposure to data storage solutions such as PostgreSQL, RDS, or S3.
- Basic knowledge of containers (Docker) and an eagerness to learn Kubernetes.
- Exposure to infrastructure as code concepts (Terraform or similar).
- Interest in learning CI/CD pipelines and modern automation tools.
- Understanding of testing pyramids and experience writing unit and integration tests.
- Familiarity with at least one observability/monitoring tool (e.g., DataDog, Prometheus, or Grafana).
