About This Role
Axsome Therapeutics is seeking a Senior Manager, Sales Training and Development to lead strategic training initiatives that elevate the performance of our commercial teams. This role will be instrumental in executing launch readiness and training programs that drive excellence in product execution and market access capabilities. This role will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Commercial, Medical, Regulatory, and Legal, to design and deliver impactful training solutions that prepare our field teams for successful product launch and ongoing market engagement.
This role is based at Axsome’s HQ in New York City with an on-site requirement of at least three days per week. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles.
Job Responsibilities and Duties include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Partner with key functions (Clinical Operations, Pharmacovigilance) and interface functions (e.g. Medical Affairs and Commercial) to support a compliance journey; driving and achieving a “first time right” approach in relevant issue and initiatives.
- Lead the design and delivery of training programs for Axsome Specialty Account Managers, focused on advancing product knowledge, clinical acumen, selling skills, and customer engagement
- Translate business strategy into training solutions, ensuring sales teams are fully prepared to communicate product value, clinical data, and competitive differentiation to healthcare professionals
- Own the end-to-end new hire onboarding experience, driving speed-to-impact through structured learning, certification, and field readiness
- Drive field pull-through and coaching excellence by partnering with Sales Leadership and conducting field engagements to reinforce training, identify capability gaps, and accelerate performance
- Leverage field insights and performance data to continuously refine training strategy, close capability gaps, and improve execution across the sales organization
- Serve as a strategic partner to cross-functional teams (Medical Affairs, Marketing, Market Access, Regulatory, Operations) to ensure training aligns with brand strategy, customer needs, and compliance requirements
- Lead training strategy and execution for product launches, ensuring seamless readiness and effective market introduction
- Develop and maintain scalable learning tools and resources, including playbooks, workshops, digital content, and reinforcement programs
- Oversee and optimize the Learning Management System (LMS) to deliver an efficient, engaging learning experience and track training effectiveness and completion
- Drive adoption and effective use of digital tools and platforms (CRM, analytics, and customer engagement tools) to enhance field execution
- Ensure all training content meets compliance standards and industry regulations, maintaining a high bar for accuracy, ethics, and promotional integrity
- Partner with internal teams and external vendors to design innovative, high-impact training solutions and execute programs at scale
Requirements / Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree
- 7+ years of overall pharmaceutical industry experience with 2+ years in training and/or sales coaching
- Up to 20% travel (Key meetings and POAs)
- Strong project management and execution skills, in pharmaceutical product launch environments
- Experience with vendor and budget management
- Experience facilitating training in both classroom and virtual settings
- Experience managing LMS platforms
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
- Ability to work on site Monday, Tuesday & Thursday. We are unable to consider candidates who are looking for fully remote roles
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
- Strong facilitation, presentation, and communication skills
- Background in adult learning principles and instructional design preferred
- Strong understanding of CNS disorders and related therapies is preferred
Salary & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for this role is $140,000 - $165,000. We encourage candidates of all levels to apply as there may be flexibility on final job title and responsibilities. The salary offer will be based on a variety of factors, including experience, qualifications, internal equity and location.
