Voc-Customer Service Experience (Supervised by Candice Vigil)

Vocational Trainee-Customer Service Experience Program – 2Succeed

Location: Next Chapter Market Café

Shift: M-F, 10am-2pm

Pay: $19.29/hr

Learning Objectives & Competencies to be Gained

  1. Develop professional and empathetic communication skills
    1. Gain tools to remain calm and respond during a “crisis” (a situation is escalating; a person is upset or there is a medical emergency etc.)
    2. Learn and practice proper customer service etiquette
    3. Gain confidence in communicating challenges and ideas to co-workers, supervisors and managers
    4. Communicate tardiness and absences in a timely manner by calling the front desk and direct supervisor
    5. Communicate with fellow coworkers and supervisors in a professional and mindful manner
    6. Communicate to supervisor when supplies run low and need to be ordered
    7. Address the needs of people we serve in an effective and compassionate manner
  2. Gain inventory, cash handling and documentation skills
    1. Handle purchase transactions
    2. Inventory products
    3. Keep accurate records
    4. Learn use of new equipment
  3. Maintain sense of safety for one’s self and others
    1. Communicate needs of safety to fellow coworkers and supervisors
    2. Address safety concerns regarding others present in and outside of the building
    3. Communicate needs complaints to immediate supervisor should any medications be found, slips, trips, falls, or sticks
    4. Learn the importance of and maintain PHI confidentiality at all times
  4. Care for practical needs of our community members while they are provided services
    1. Articulate our protocols
    2. Provide answers to various questions from the people we serve and/or direct them towards the best person who can provide an answer
    1. Conduct equal and honest customer service and processing of items purchased
    2. Provide consistent and fair distribution of products and shopping opportunity for all community members
    3. Communicate any unethical behaviors to direct supervisor or manager  
    4. Maintain a professional work environment
    1. Practice attentiveness to the needs of customers
    2. Assist with finding desired products
    3. Assist new members in understanding our Sally’s and Market Cafe services
    4. Uphold and communicate ethical standards of practice

Skills required for this position consist of:  The ability to occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Ability to maintain a friendly and professional demeanor. Ensure HIPPA confidentiality standards. Willingness to learn.

Timeline to Complete program

  • Training: 4-6 months
  • Proficient: 5-7 months
  • Completion of vocational employment: 8-10 months

 

  • Tuberculosis (TB) screening, testing - TB screening and testing, is required and must be completed prior to hire ( i.e., preplacement), and maintained during employment
