SUMMARY: The Field Technician role includes a combination of local field service and regional/national installation, supervision, and QA support. The Field Technician provides support for New Era Technology project teams by completing work in the field at customer sites and acting as installers and supervisors to sub-contractors. The role is responsible for assuring all facets of field operations are executed safely and in the prescribed amount of time in accordance with the scope of work. The Field Technician can work on multiple projects for a variety of clients and serves as the face of New Era Technology in the field.
Essential Functions:
- Build and maintain trusted relationships with customers and stakeholders.
- Build alliances and partnerships with subcontractors.
- Improve customer satisfaction/NPS scores.
- Ensure that all assigned work is completed safely and to industry specifications.
- Completion of client and company checklists, photos, and test results typically communicated to management electronically within 24 hours of completion.
- Keep the Project Managers apprised of job progress and/or problems on a regular basis.
- Provide after-hours or emergency service on an as needed basis.
- Complete surveys & quality audits as needed.
- Adhere to existing company policies, standards and controls, including utilizing App-based tools.
- The majority of work is performed at customer locations.
- Installation of cabling infrastructure includes but not limited to:
- Single/Multi mode fiber 50/62.5
- Copper Category 3, 5e, 6, shielded in both horizontal and backbone applications.
- 18/2 twisted pair cabling.
- Floor mount/wall mount racks/cabinets
- Proper grounding applications
- Installation, troubleshooting, and servicing of the following areas: POS, CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, computer, and low voltage cabling equipment.
- Installation of a variety of equipment in furniture, cabinets and closets.
- Installation of high-speed circuits, routers, switches, and modems.
- Installation of Cisco and Adtran high speed circuits, routers, and switches.
- Properly maintain a Company issued fleet vehicle.
Required Experience/Education:
- Experience working with subcontractors.
- In-depth experience with cabling infrastructure installation, termination and testing to include but not limited to:
- Single/Multi mode fiber 50/62.5
- Copper Category 3, 5e, 6, shielded in both horizontal and backbone applications.
- 18/2 twisted pair.
- Floor mount/wall mount racks/cabinets
- Proper grounding applications
- Experience installing, programming and servicing a variety of telephone, PBX and key systems.
- Experience installing, troubleshooting and servicing 2 or more of the following areas: POS, CCTV, video monitoring, security systems, computer and low voltage cabling equipment.
- Knowledge of high-speed circuits, routers, switches and modems
- Knowledge of Cisco and Adtran high speed circuits, routers and switches
- Some combination of the following experience:
- Ability to login to network equipment via a GUI or command line using PuTTY or similar terminal emulator.
- Knowledge of IP subnetting
- Knowledge of wireless networking, specifically Ekahau, AirMagnet or similar tools
- Some experience with desktop/laptop support
- Valid driver’s license
Related/Relevant Certifications (Not Mandatory):
• Licensed Electrician Journeyman level
• Relevant Certifications – Cisco, Aruba, Ruckus, Avaya, CommScope, etc.
• OSHA Construction Safety and Health (10 or 30 hour) certification
• BICSI Installer 1/2 or Technician
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to properly use basic hand tools, power tools, and testing tools for the installation and testing of voice and network equipment to include but not limited to:
- Firewalls, routers, switches
- Wireless LAN controllers
- On-premises voice/key systems
- Physical security controllers and door strikes
- Video security cameras, DVRs, and NVRs
- VoIP handsets
- Knowledge and experience with the utilization of time tracking software
- Intermediate MS Office computer skills, including Word, Excel and Outlook
- Ability to give and receive clear direction from multiple sources.
- Ability to effectively communicate, present information, and respond to managers, employees, customers, and vendors in an intelligent, clear, concise, professional and grammatically correct manner.
- Ability to establish and retain customer confidence.
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
- Work on remote job sites in various stages of construction.
- Required to use hands and arms to finger, type, handle, feel or reach, pull and squeeze.
- Sitting and driving may be required for up to 100% of the workday.
- Frequently required to stand, walk, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and perform work overhead.
- Required to use a 6, 8, 10 and 12ft ladder and Scissor/Boom lifts.
- Vision requirements include the ability to adjust focus and view a computer screen, also to focus on components in their original casings to detect problems and troubleshoot issues.
- The employee is required to hear, and talk in a clear, audible voice.
- Travel by car and plane 100% of the time
- Required to carry the required tools and materials from vehicle to work and to lift up to 80 lbs.
- May be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, moving mechanical parts, high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and outside weather conditions.
- All Personal Protective Equipment is supplied by the Company where required.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK: Monday – Friday 8am – 5pm. May vary due to project assignment.
TRAVEL: Overnight travel could be to 80% depending upon project requirements.
LANGUAGE SKILLS: English
