About the Role
Got your bookkeeping basics down and ready to put them to work somewhere interesting? Brilliant Harvest is hiring an Accountant to support our Finance & Operations Manager across a broad mix of accounting, finance, and operations tasks — think monthly bookkeeping, payroll, invoicing, sales tax filings, and helping pull together reports for investors and the board. It's a varied role with real exposure to how a growing business runs, and a genuine stepping stone from bookkeeping into broader finance and business operations.
This role is based in Calgary, AB and requires a certain level of in-office presence.
What You'll Do:
Accounting:
Preparation of monthly bookkeeping, including:
Accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue recognition, payroll recording, monthly close, capital asset depreciation, deferred revenue, monthly cashflow projection, bank reconciliation, and foreign exchange transactions
Prepare bill payments
Prepare customer invoices
Sales tax return preparation and filing to ensure accuracy and compliance
Prepare internal and external financial reports (monthly, quarterly, annual), including budget-to-actual and financial statement variance analysis, as required
Prepare business metrics as needed
Preparation of In-house Payroll
Finance:
Prepare metrics and reports for investor and board reporting requirements
Assist in preparation of annual budget
Assistance in budgeting, forecasting and financial planning on an ongoing basis
Assist with grant applications and financials required for reporting
Operations & Administration
Assist with employee onboarding
Assist with contracts, compensation reviews and raises
What You Bring:
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business or a related field
2-3 years experience across general bookkeeping
Experience with Xero, Quickbooks, Sage, or other ERP systems is considered an asset
Must be detail-oriented with strong time management skills in order to deliver on deadlines
Nice to have: Progression towards a CPA designation
