About the role
SUMMARY
The Credit Solutions Specialist is responsible for managing collection activities on delinquent member accounts, including mortgages, VISA credit cards, lines of credit, secured and unsecured loans, and significantly overdrawn savings and checking accounts. This role involves assessing delinquent accounts, determining the Credit Union’s position, and recommending appropriate collection strategies, such as litigation, repossession, foreclosure, or the use of skip-tracing tools and professional locators as necessary. This position collaborates closely with internal partners across various departments and external partners, including vendors and third-party agencies, to ensure effective resolution of delinquent accounts while upholding the Credit Union’s values and member-focused approach.

- Education and/or Experience: High School diploma; 3 to 5 years related experience and/or training in financial institutions; and/or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: None required or preferred.
- Geographical Location: This position may be eligible for a flexible work arrangement. Individuals working in this position must be located within the state of California.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Engage with members to discuss reasons for delinquent payments and secure commitments to resolve delinquencies.
- Recommend and oversee repossession processes, including coordination with recovery vendors and monitoring collateral recovery.
- Prepare and issue required notifications for pre and post-sale of secured assets.
- Manage mortgage collections, including foreclosure processes and negotiations to minimize losses.
- Determine the Credit Union’s position in bankruptcy proceedings, monitor case outcomes, and represent the Credit Union at creditor meetings.
- Recommend and direct legal actions, including litigation, garnishments, and supplemental orders, in coordination with legal counsel.
- Explore and recommend workout solutions, such as payment extensions or loan modifications, to assist members in financial hardship.
- Refer members to BALANCE or other resources for financial counseling and support.
- Manage and process bankruptcy files, including court documentation, attorney referrals, and case follow-ups.
- Represent the Credit Union in small claims proceedings, foreclosure sales, and post-judgment actions.
- Prepare and present collection activity reports for management on a daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
- Compliance with the Bank Secrecy Act, OFAC, and USA PATRIOT Act, including but not limited to reporting suspicious activities to the supervisor and BSA Officer.

- Comprehensive knowledge of lending operations, products, services, and applicable laws and regulations, including Fair Debt Collection Practices.
- Initiative-taking, detail-oriented, and capable of working independently.
- In-depth understanding of bankruptcy law, skip-tracing methods, and collateral protection insurance.
- Proficient in computer applications, including MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), Adobe Acrobat, and online research tools.
