Position Description:

Calico is seeking a highly motivated neuroscientist to join a collaborative research team focused on Parkinson’s Disease biology. This is a position for a fearless scientist interested in testing emerging mechanistic and therapeutic hypotheses through the development of fit-for-purpose in vivo models. The candidate should have a broad background in systems neuroscience and neurophysiology. The candidate will work closely with scientists and leaders in translational neuroscience, research physiology, genomics, data science and advanced imaging groups.  The candidate may lead programs from exploratory biology through early drug development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design, execute and interpret in vivo experiments that may involve stereotactic surgeries, viral delivery, and pharmacology
  • Provide scientific leadership for projects involving CROs, external partners, and internal collaborations
  • Model creation, licensing, colony planning and maintenance, in coordination with Laboratory Animal Resources and relevant vendors

Position Requirements:

  • PhD in biology, neuroscience or related discipline, and 5+ years of relevant post-doctoral or industry experience
  • Deep knowledge of neuroanatomy, brain sectioning, and clearing methods
  • Proficient in stereotactic surgery
  • Track record of linking molecular to functional changes, ideally in models of neurodegeneration and disease pathobiology
  • Experience with viral and genetic tools
  • Strong teamwork and proactive communication skills
  • Self-motivated and able to work independently in a cross-functional team environment
  • Proficiency with R, Python, or equivalent platform for data analysis and visualization
  • Meticulous with attention to detail
  • Must be willing to work onsite 5 days a week

The estimated base salary range for this role is $177,000 - $197,000. Actual pay will be based on a number of factors including experience and qualifications. This position is also eligible for two annual cash bonuses.
