The Senior Accountant – Grants & Fund Accounting is responsible for core accounting functions with a focus on general ledger, net asset tracking, and grant accounting. This role supports accurate financial reporting and compliance for restricted and unrestricted funding, including foundation and other grant sources, and supports NICRA preparation and submission.
This position collaborates closely with Accounting, Grant Writing, and Program teams to ensure proper accounting treatment, financial reporting, and compliance with GAAP, donor restrictions, and regulatory requirements.
Additional Requirement

Essential Job Functions
Perform monthly and annual general ledger close activities, including journal entries, and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts related to grants, receivables, deferred revenue, and net assets.
Supports the preparation and submission of the annual Negotiated Indirect Cost Rate Application (NICRA).
Ensure compliance with GAAP, donor restrictions, and grant agreements, while maintaining audit-ready documentation and supporting internal and external audits.
Partner with Accounting, Grant Writing, and Program teams to strengthen internal controls and improve grant and fund tracking processes.
Manage restricted and unrestricted funding, including fund setup, maintaining accurate classifications, and recording net asset releases in accordance with donor restrictions.Oversee the full lifecycle of foundation and grant accounting, including award setup, budget monitoring, expense tracking, billing, financial reporting, and grant closeout.Prepare and analyze budget-to-actual reports, identify variances, and provide actionable insights to support program and financial decision-making.
Performs assignments, some of which are primarily routine and restricted in intricacy, using well established and well-defined procedures, methods, and techniques, and receives instruction in the interpretation and application of appropriate fiscal laws, rules, regulations, and procedures.
Performs assignments some of which are not routine and require understanding and interpretation of accounting principles, regulations, and grant requirements to tailor procedures, methods, and techniques.Ensure timely & accurate use of all company systems as required while maintaining complete up-to-date records and any future upgrades as directed.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Summary
Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or other business-related field required.
Recent grants experience or other relevant billing, budgeting, contract and data analysis experience preferred.
Previous experience using and maintaining a computerized accounting system required, experience with Sage Intacct software preferred.
5 years of accounting experience required.
