Field Service Technician – Grand Rapids, MI

DISHER is excited to partner with a trusted leader in delivering machine tool solutions. We are on the hunt for a highly organized, proactive, and energetic Field Service Technician to support our service team.

What it’s like to work here:

This company thrives in a culture built on collaboration, hustle, and humor. They work hard, support each other, and know how to have fun doing it. Their team is growing, and their pace is fast, but what truly sets them apart is how much they care—about their customers, their people, and the quality of their work. You’ll join a group that works closely together and celebrates both the big and small wins. If you enjoy variety, solving problems, and being part of a down-to-earth, high-energy crew, this might be your perfect fit.

What you will get to do:

  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair customers’ production machinery on-site, ensuring minimal downtime and proper operation of the equipment.
  • Diagnose mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and control issues when machines fail or perform poorly and carry out repairs or adjustments on-site.
  • Act as a technical representative of this company's machinery brands, helping reinforce long-term customer relationships.
  • Spend most of your time on the road visiting customers across MI, OH, and IN, with frequent day trips and occasional overnights, while still aiming to be home on the weekends.
  • What will make you successful:

  • Strong interest in problem-solving; typical days can be long and stressful, and you must enjoy tracking down and fixing tough issues.
  • Willingness and ability to spend most weekdays on the road across MI, OH, and IN, with occasional air travel to other regions when needed.
  • At least 2 years of electronic technical schooling or equivalent hands‑on experience in a related technical field.
  • Associate’s degree in electrical or mechanical technology is preferred and will help with more complex diagnostics.
  • Completion of a field service training program, or prior experience with N/C or P/C equipment service, maintenance, or machine operation.
  • Valid driver’s license with a safe driving record, since travel is central to the job.
  • High adaptability to changing priorities, schedules, and customer needs, often with short notice.
  • Good oral and written communication skills to explain issues, document service, and work directly with customers.
  • Self‑starter mindset and strong self‑reliance, able to work with minimal supervision and manage time and tasks independently.
  • Comfortable contributing to a fun and positive team culture, bringing a good attitude to customers’ shops, and representing a friendly, relationship‑focused approach.
