Our operating principles guide daily behavior and ensure we hire people who will thrive at Podium. If you're hungry for growth, aligned to our operating principles, and ready to get to work, you won't find a better place to learn and accelerate your career.
About this opportunity:
We're building AI Employees that run local businesses - agents that answer phones, book appointments, and close deals autonomously 24/7. Deployed at 100,000+ locations handling thousands of daily customer conversations across auto dealerships, home services companies, and aesthetics and wellness clinics.
You'll design how humans work alongside AI that's increasingly capable of doing their job. The interaction patterns for this don't exist yet - you'll help create them.
You'll be a design lead on this team, partnering directly with PM and engineering on some of the hardest UX problems in enterprise AI right now.
What you will be doing:
- Make deeply complex systems feel simple to people who don't care how they work
- Set the design standard for the team and raise the craft bar across the entire product surface
- Lead with customers - on-site, running your own research, and using it to drive what we build next
- Drive alignment across PM, engineering, and GTM without needing a defined process to do it
What you should have:
- 6+ years designing complex software that real people use daily under pressure - you've worked on systems where the underlying technology is powerful but the experience has to feel simple
- Track record of defining interaction paradigms, not just executing within them - you've invented patterns that didn't exist before, not just iterated on established ones
- Proven ability to do your own research and bring it back as product direction, not just design artifacts - you talk to customers, watch how they work, and walk out knowing what to build next
- CS degree or equivalent builder experience - you've shipped code, understand how systems work under the hood, and don't need engineering to explain why something is hard
- Prototypes in code as a default, not a last resort - Cursor, Claude Code, or similar are already part of how you work
- Comfortable designing across every surface the product touches - you don't get precious about the medium
- Curious about AI and how it changes the products you build - you don't need to be an expert but you need to care
What we hope you have:
These aren't requirements — they're the things that would make you dangerous in this role.
- A point of view on AI-human interaction. You've thought about agentic UX — handoffs, trust calibration, what humans need to see when a
machine is acting on their behalf. You have opinions about where most AI products get it wrong. - Experience designing for non-technical operators. You've built for people who use software as a means to an end (front-desk staff,
dispatchers, clinic managers) not power users who live in the tool. - Comfort in ambiguity and zero-to-one. You've shipped before the problem was well-defined, when there was no design system, no clear
spec, and no playbook to copy. - Fluency moving between fidelities fast — napkin sketch to coded prototype in a day, because the fastest way to settle a debate is to
make the thing real. - A track record of leading without authority — you've raised the craft bar on teams by example and influence, not process.
- Exposure to regulated or high-stakes domains (healthcare, finance, operations) where getting it wrong has real consequences (a plus, not a must).
Why you'll love working here:
- You'll define a category, not decorate one. The interaction patterns for humans working alongside capable AI don't exist yet. You won't
iterate on someone else's paradigm — you'll create the one others copy. - Your work ships and reaches real scale immediately. 100,000+ locations, thousands of live conversations a day. Decisions you make this
week change how real businesses experience AI next week. - Design has a real seat. You'll partner directly with PM and engineering on the hardest problems — design drives product direction here,
it doesn't pretty up decisions made elsewhere. - You'll go to the source. We put you in the dispatch center and the clinic, not behind a survey tool. You'll watch the work, run your own
research, and bring back what to build next. - Velocity is the culture, not the exception. Small teams, extreme ownership, low ceremony. If you've been frustrated by slow orgs and
process for its own sake, this is the antidote. - You'll work at the frontier of applied AI — alongside people building genuinely novel things, with the tooling and support to prototype
in code and move fast.
