About the Role

Imagine this. You are helping redefine how the world navigates. As an Experimental Physicist, you will play a key role in building a proprietary, next generation Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) that challenges the limits of conventional navigation. Instead of relying on increasingly complex hardware, we are shifting that complexity into intelligent software, creating a new generation of high precision sensing technology.

To make this possible, you will design the core physical sensing element from the ground up. You will own the mathematical modelling, multi physics simulations, and micro scale geometries that define how our sensor vibrates, behaves, and performs. Working at the intersection of physics, mechanics, and engineering, your designs will establish the precision limits of a breakthrough navigation system.

At Destinus, we are revolutionizing the defense industry with cutting-edge Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Our innovative technologies are designed to meet the unique demands of modern defense operations, delivering unparalleled speed, precision, and cost effectiveness. Destinus partners with government agencies and defense organizations worldwide to provide advanced solutions for mission-critical operations, enabling a new era of efficiency and technological superiority. Join us in shaping the future of defense with groundbreaking aerospace innovations.

What You'll Do

  • Shape the core sensor: Use simulation software to model and optimise the exact 3D geometries of our micro-scale vibrating sensor structures.
  • Stop energy leaks: Run detailed multi-physics simulations to map out how mechanical energy moves through the structure. Your main goal is to maximise energy storage and eliminate structural, acoustic, and thermal energy losses.
  • Design the control interface: Calculate the precise spacing, sizing, and layout of the electrostatic gaps and drive pads that our electronics team will use to interact with your physical sensor.
  • Deliver the blueprints: Translate your optimised mathematical models into clean engineering layout files so our team can build them in the cleanroom.
  • Bridge physics and software: Work closely with our Materials Engineer to make sure your designs are manufacturable and collaborate with our FPGA and Software leads to translate physical wave dynamics into code requirements.

Requirements

What You'll Need

  • A PhD or master's degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, or similar.
  • At least 5 years of experience
  • Simulation. Hands-on experience with physics simulation tools. You should love modelling vibration modes, mechanical stress, and thermal behaviour.
  • Intuition for mechanics. A strong physical intuition for how microscopic structures bend, vibrate, and lose energy. You know how to look at a simulation plot and spot structural stress bottlenecks.
  • Clear communicator. You can translate complex physics concepts into practical engineering steps for the rest of the hardware and software team.

Nice to have

  • Experience designing precision sensors like accelerometers, micro-gyroscopes, atomic clocks, or acoustic wave devices.
  • Basic familiarity with semiconductor cleanroom processing steps.

Who you are

You are driven by curiosity and enjoy solving complex physical problems that have never been solved before. You combine deep theoretical knowledge with practical engineering thinking, always looking for elegant solutions that perform in the real world. You thrive in multidisciplinary environments where physics, electronics, manufacturing, and software come together. You take ownership of challenging technical problems, communicate clearly across teams, and are motivated by seeing your ideas evolve from mathematical models into breakthrough hardware that defines the future of autonomous flight.
