Role Review
The Chief Risk Officer (CRO) will be responsible for designing, building, and continuously strengthening Coins.ph’s enterprise risk management framework across:
- e-money and wallet operations,
- domestic and cross-border payments,
- remittance,
- crypto and digital asset services,
- treasury and liquidity risk,
- fraud and operational risk,
- and strategic business risk.
This leader will play a critical role in enabling sustainable growth while ensuring the company maintains a strong risk posture and regulatory standing.
The ideal candidate combines:
- deep fintech and payments risk expertise,
- strong understanding of BSP-regulated businesses,
- operational and execution strength,
- data-driven decision making,
- and the ability to balance growth, user experience, and risk management.
This role requires someone who is highly effective in cross-functional execution, capable of driving complex risk initiatives end-to-end, and experienced in working closely with regulators, executive leadership, and Board committees.
Key Responsibilities
Enterprise Risk Management
- Lead the company’s overall enterprise risk management (ERM) framework and risk governance structure.
- Define and continuously evolve the company’s risk appetite framework across:
- payments,
- wallet services,
- remittance,
- crypto,
- liquidity,
- operations,
- and strategic initiatives.
- Develop risk policies, controls, monitoring frameworks, and escalation processes.
- Provide regular risk reporting and risk insights to executive management and Board committees.
- Oversee risk management across:
- domestic payments,
- cross-border payments,
- e-wallets,
- remittance,
- crypto trading and transfers,
- partner ecosystems,
- and treasury operations.
- Establish scalable controls for:
- transaction risk,
- fraud prevention,
- account takeover,
- mule activity,
- payment abuse,
- chargeback risk,
- liquidity and settlement risk,
- and digital asset exposure.
- Partner with Compliance and AML teams on financial crime and fraud risk management.
- Ensure risk controls appropriately balance security, operational efficiency, and customer experience.
- Work closely with BSP and other regulators on risk-related governance, examinations, remediation programs, and supervisory requirements.
- Support the company’s regulatory obligations as an EMI and VASP-regulated entity.
- Ensure strong risk governance across new products, partnerships, and market expansion initiatives.
- Lead enterprise risk assessments and stress-testing exercises where appropriate.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Operations, Treasury, Legal, and Compliance teams to enable responsible innovation and business growth.
- Embed risk management into product design, operational workflows, and strategic decision-making.
- Build scalable risk infrastructure and decisioning capabilities leveraging automation, analytics, and technology.
- Provide practical, business-oriented risk guidance in a fast-moving fintech and crypto environment.
- Build and lead a high-performing risk organization across:
- fraud risk,
- operational risk,
- payments risk,
- enterprise risk,
- treasury/liquidity risk,
- and risk analytics.
- Drive cross-functional execution of high-priority risk and operational initiatives.
- Foster a strong culture of accountability, urgency, operational excellence, and data-driven risk management.
- Mentor senior leaders and strengthen organizational capability at scale.
