Companies Alice Bob Senior Parametric Amplification Expert M/F

About the role

Alice Bob · Onsite
Alice & Bob is developing the first universal, fault-tolerant quantum computer to solve the world’s hardest problems.
The quantum computer we envision building is based on a new kind of superconducting qubit: the Schrödinger cat qubit 🐈‍⬛. In comparison to other superconducting platforms, cat qubits have the astonishing ability to implement quantum error correction autonomously!

We're a diverse team of 250+ brilliant minds from over 35 countries united by a single goal: to revolutionise computing with a practical fault-tolerant quantum machine. Are you ready to take on unprecedented challenges and contribute to revolutionising technology? Join us, and let's shape the future of quantum computing together!

As Senior Amplification Expert and part of the QECC (Qubit Environment Characterization & Control), you will oversee to the design, selection and optimization of the qubit readout chain used in our Quantum Processor Unit.
You will be in charge of : specifying, selecting, characterizing and improving the amplification chain used in our current chips and in our Lithium product. Study, prepare and develop the solution for future large chips (2027+)
Your expertise in Amplification systems will directly contribute to our culture of technical excellence and innovation, shaping the future of quantum computing. As part of the team you will help and support your colleagues focusing on characterization and instrumentation. You will also be the relay for amplification chain and readout with other teams inside A&B.

Responsabilities

Upstream studies & project development:
  • Study the problematics linked to the readout and amplification chain and develop appropriate solutions. This may include testing and screening new components, optimizing TWPA calibration, developing building blocks for scale-up (such as multiplexing and integration strategies), and contributing to the design of front-end and baseband control electronics, signal generation using FPGAs or ASICs.

  • Define and document the specifications of your projects and proofs of concept (PoCs), ensuring alignment with your manager on feasibility, timeline, and budget.

  • Organize, coordinate, and manage projects to ensure their successful execution and delivery.

  • Testing, Validation & industrialization:
  • Propose and help to implement a testing environment for your projects
  • Lead the tests and measurement, with the help of instrumentation and software engineers
  • Push the TRL validations up to the requested level by the Product delivery cycle
  • Ensure the transfer of developed building blocks to the operating teams
  • Troubleshooting & Optimization:

    • Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve technical issues related to the he test chip, cryo environment, or instrumentation / control electronics.
    • Implement root cause analysis process if needed
    • Establish long term roadmap on the amplification chain:

      • Conduct technology watch on the state of the art in amplification devices and the scale-up of amplification chains, identifying emerging technologies and assessing their relevance for the company's objectives.
      • Define and maintain a technological roadmap for the amplification chain, leveraging both external partnerships and internal developments where appropriate. Ensure close alignment with the design authority so that the roadmap remains consistent with the company's overall technology strategy.
      • Foster and maintain collaborations with academic and industrial partners by participating in national and international workshops and conferences, in line with the company's budget, conference plan, and the team's priorities and organization.
      • Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams & partners:

        • Work closely with other teams to ensure the seamless integration of our components in our hardware and software set-up.
        • Organize regularly internal workshops to the rest of the team to popularize technical knowledge to other team members
        • Documentation & Reporting:

          • Ensure all design processes, test results, and system configurations are thoroughly documented.
          • Provide regular updates and reports on your projects progress and timelines.

    Requirements

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Quantum Experimental Physics, EEE, or related field.
  • 7+ years of experience of experimental work in quantum mechanics, preferably in the field of superconducting quantum circuits and amplification.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills, with a proactive and positive attitude.
  • Experience in software programming (Python)
  • Experience of working with electrical test equipment (oscilloscope, VNA, spectrum analyzer, multimeter, etc.)
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, including software engineers, physicists, and hardware suppliers
  • Business proficiency in English is mandatory
  • Nice to have: In-depth knowledge of RF systems Scientific

  • Recruitment Process

  • Screening Call with Alexandra Talent Acquisition Specialist (30 min)
  • Hiring Manager Interview with clément (45 min)
  • Technical Interview/Presentation with the Team (90 min)
  • Leadership and Fit Interview (60 min)
