Position Overview

This is Cobalt's first dedicated marketing and communications hire. Reporting directly to Co-CEO Anthony Gonzalez, you will serve as his right hand in executing Cobalt's communications and marketing strategy, owning all external brand presence, PR, and thought leadership activity.

Your mission is to build Cobalt's brand from the ground up by turning the company's enterprise value proposition, Reason for Being, and founder profile into a trusted name among enterprise buyers. The healthcare systems trying to protect patients, the school districts keeping kids safe, the critical infrastructure operators whose environments cannot afford to fail: these organizations deserve a security partner built for the complexity of their world. This role is responsible for making sure they know Cobalt is that partner.

This is a role for someone who is entrepreneurial, exceptional at executive communications and B2B brand writing, and ready to operate with real autonomy at the highest level of the organization.

What You Will Own

Brand Launch and Marketing Firm Management

Serve as the internal strategic counterpart to the marketing firm throughout the Cobalt brand build and website relaunch. Ensure all deliverables are aligned with enterprise buyer expectations and Cobalt positioning. Own the initial "Powered by Cobalt" sub-brand launch and maintain brand consistency standards once guidelines are established.

Founder PR and Executive Communications

Build and maintain the Executive Team’s messaging platform so every public appearance builds Cobalt's institutional brand. Proactively book and manage podcast appearances, speaking engagements, and media interviews. Prepare briefing materials, talking points, and Q&A prep for all appearances. Ensure every appearance is followed by a structured content repurposing workflow. Target audiences include enterprise security buyers, the private equity and financial community, and government.

Thought Leadership and Content Strategy

Develop and execute a content calendar that establishes Cobalt as the credible voice in enterprise security and facilities management. Ghostwrite bylines, white papers, and op-eds for relevant members of the Executive Team. Manage Cobalt's LinkedIn presence and social channels. Build the content library the sales team deploys in enterprise conversations. Cultivate relationships with editors, podcast hosts, and conference organizers in healthcare, education, and critical infrastructure.

Enterprise Brand Credibility Building

Identify and develop enterprise customer case studies that speak to target buyer pain points. Manage the process of obtaining customer quotes, references, and public use approvals. Ensure all website and marketing materials reflect the specific language and concerns of enterprise buyers, not the language of the vendor. Coordinate PR around enterprise wins and milestones to maximize brand exposure.

Portfolio Communications

As Cobalt's portfolio brand strategy takes shape, develop the messaging guidelines and tools that allow 22 operating businesses to represent the brand consistently in external interactions. This is a change management challenge as much as a communications one.

Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience as the primary communications or PR lead for a senior executive, elected official, or high-profile principal, with a track record of building institutional brand rather than personal profile
  • Exceptional writing across formats: executive thought leadership, web copy, case studies, op-eds, and briefing materials
  • Established relationships with podcast producers, journalists, and conference organizers, or a clear methodology for building and maintaining those relationships, with the ability to write a compelling pitch and manage media opportunities end-to-end without relying on an outside agency
  • Experience managing an outside marketing or PR agency as a strategic counterpart, setting direction, pushing back, and holding them accountable to outcomes, while running multiple workstreams simultaneously
  • A real content system you have built and operated, with the ability to describe exactly how it works
  • Fluency with LinkedIn strategy, social scheduling tools, and basic analytics platforms
  • An AI-native approach to work, with the instinct to leverage every available tool to multiply output and operate above your weight class
  • Familiarity with enterprise B2B buyers in regulated or mission-critical industries, or the demonstrated ability to learn their language quickly
