Companies Equal1 Quantum Error Correction Lead / Senior Quantum Error Correction Scientist

About the role

Equal1

We are looking for a dedicated Quantum Error Correction (QEC) Architect to join the Equal1 team. This pivotal role will drive the research and development of error correction codes and logical circuit schemes tailored to silicon spin qubits.

As a Senior QEC Scientist / QEC Lead, you will lead the technical effort to design, evaluate, and evolve QEC architectures, translating theory into practical, hardware-aware approaches that support Equal1’s roadmap to scalable fault-tolerant quantum computing.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

  • Lead the efforts to implement quantum error correction protocols for Equal1 silicon spin QSoC technology platform.

  • Designing and modifying error correcting codes, logical qubit schemes, and decoding algorithms suitable for large scale arrays of silicon spin qubits

  • Specify the minimal requirements for our physical qubits to go beyond breakeven for various codes, and guide future qubit topology to facilitate error correction schemes.

  • Conduct research and development to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of Equal1’s fault-tolerant quantum computing systems, and stay up-to-date with the latest developments and trends in the field.

  • Develop and maintain technical documentation and collateral, including design specifications and test plans, and technical manuals.

  • Simulate using appropriate noise models, quantum error correction codes, and fault-tolerant computations.

  • Collaborate with other technical professionals across Equal1 and external collaborators to ensure that fault-tolerant systems are integrated effectively into the overall quantum computing architecture.

  • Integrate with the Algorithms and Theory teams to develop new error correcting codes and implement algorithms on fault-tolerant error correction codes.

  • Disseminate information and results internally and externally through internal seminars and publications in international journals and conferences.

Experience and Qualifications

  • Comprehensive understanding of fault-tolerant quantum computing, with experience in the following areas: quantum error-correction, decoding, logical gate design, implementation of non-Clifford gates, lattice surgery, code switching etc.

  • At least 5 years of relevant experience in academia or industry research in quantum error correction.

  • Experience working with cross-functional teams, including engineering, algorithm, software, and measurement teams.

  • Experience implementing quantum error correction solutions.

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to design and develop complex fault-tolerant systems effectively.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with quantum engineers, scientists, and other technical professionals.

  • Experience in developing and maintaining technical documentation, including design specifications, test plans, and user manuals.

  • Competence in programming using Python (or similar).

  • PhD in a relevant field (e.g. Quantum Computing, Physics, Math, Computer Science) or Postdoc/industry experience in quantum error correction.

  • A proven track record of relevant achievements (publication, preprints, public code).
