We are looking for an experienced and commercially minded Director to join our Corporate Communications team in Madrid. This is an opportunity for a senior consultant with deep expertise across financial communications, investment banking communications, financial institutions and corporate finance to advise high-profile clients on complex, business-critical communications challenges. You will play a key role in building senior client relationships, shaping strategic communications programmes and contributing to the continued growth of Burson’s financial communications offer in Spain.

The role requires someone who can combine sharp strategic thinking with strong execution, sound judgement and the ability to translate complex financial, market and corporate issues into clear, compelling communications. You will work closely with clients, senior stakeholders, advisers and integrated teams to protect and enhance reputation, support business objectives and deliver communications that create meaningful impact.

What you'll do:

  • Lead the development and delivery of strategic, integrated communications programmes for clients across financial services, investment banking, financial institutions and corporate finance.
  • Act as a trusted day-to-day adviser to senior clients, providing clear counsel across corporate reputation, media relations, transactions, market positioning and stakeholder engagement.
  • Build and nurture strong client relationships, identifying opportunities to deepen partnerships and deliver greater value, impact and results.
  • Translate complex financial and corporate information into clear, well-structured messaging, narratives, briefing materials, press materials and senior stakeholder communications.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across Corporate Communications and the wider Burson network to deliver integrated, insight-led client work.
  • Lead, manage and develop team members, providing coaching, mentoring and direction to support high-quality delivery and professional growth.
  • Identify and contribute to new business opportunities, including client growth, networking, pitch development and strategic proposal writing.
  • Maintain strong awareness of financial markets, corporate finance activity, business media, sector trends and reputational issues affecting financial clients.

Experience that contributes to success:

  • Experience in financial communications, corporate communications or strategic communications, ideally gained within a communications agency, consultancy or similarly fast-paced advisory environment.
  • Proven experience advising clients across financial services, investment banking, financial institutions, corporate finance, capital markets or closely related sectors.
  • Strong understanding of corporate reputation, media relations, stakeholder engagement and the communications needs of complex financial organisations.
  • Experience leading client accounts, managing senior client relationships and providing confident, strategic counsel to senior stakeholders.
  • Excellent written and spoken English is essential, ideally at C1/C2 level; fluent Spanish would be highly advantageous for the Madrid market.
  • Strong project leadership skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities, complex workstreams and high-quality outputs under pressure.
  • A collaborative leadership style, with experience mentoring, developing and motivating junior and mid-level team members.
