About the role
The Paiute Indian Tribe of Utah, a federally recognized Tribe, is searching for a legal intern that has completed at least the 1L year of Law School. The intern’s responsibilities may include: legal memoranda drafting, legal research, resolution drafting, contract review, and/or presentations. Assignments will come from the Tribal Attorney, and the intern will direct report to the Tribal Attorney. The desired candidate will use this experience towards their Public Service hours. The intern will be afforded the opportunity to learn intricately how a Tribal government works, get firsthand experience working in house for a Tribe, and get an up-close look at providing services to a Tribal community. Hours worked will be at a minimum of 15 hours a week.
Requirements
General Requirements:
- Must pass a criminal and fingerprint background check according to P.L. 101-630 standards required.
- Must be able to pass an alcohol/drug screening required.
Required Qualifications:
- Must have completed 1L year
- Must have desire to work in Federal Indian Law
- Experience drafting Legal Memoranda
- Excellent Research Abilities
- Excellent Written/Oral Communication Skills
Desired Qualifications but not required:
- Previous employment experience
- Federal Indian Law coursework or classroom experience
- Familiarity with Tribal Communities and Cultures
