The Utility Worker supports Fleet Techs by keeping TransWest shop areas clean, organized, and safe, including outdoor spaces as needed. This role helps Technicians with routine support tasks, maintains tools and consumable inventory in designated locations, and helps create a safe, efficient workspace. The Shop Assistant must be able to obtain forklift certification. This position allows Technicians to stay focused on mechanical and revenue-generating work while ensuring the shop remains organized and operating smoothly.
Compensation:
- $25.00 - $27.00 / Hour

- Paid Time Off (PTO) accrues in accordance with company policy and may be used for vacation, personal, or sick time. Team Members are eligible to accrue up to 80 hours (10 days) of PTO annually, with increased accrual opportunities based on years of service.
- One paid personal day annually. 8 hours for full-time Team Members and 4 hours for part-time Team Members.
- Seven Company-Observed Holidays. Full-time non-exempt Team Members receive eight hours of holiday pay and part-time non-exempt Team Members receive four hours of holiday pay for eligible holidays.
Responsibilities:
- Emptying trash and recycling bins
- Sweeping and mopping floors, both by hand and with a floor scrubbing machine
- Keeping shop tools clean and organized in designated locations
- Assisting Technicians with work being done in the shop, extra pairs of hands, eyes, ears. Moving heavy parts, tools, and equipment
- Operating a forklift to move bulk items and barrels into and out of the shop
- Maintaining inventory of consumable supplies and placing barrels in their correct location for removal
- Assisting with parts inventory checks and putting away large bulk orders along with maintaining the parts room and cleanliness
- Assembling small items such as rolling carts, shelving units, desks, and chairs, moving cores to the correct location for returns.
- Assisting with spill cleanup and fluid recovery, including moving waste fluids to waste tanks and maintaining waste fluid, filter, and bulk stations in accordance with safety standards
- Running to grab parts if needed to allow parts specialist to maintain their post for shipping and receiving
- Moving vehicles in and out of the shop and supporting vehicle movement for outside vendors within the yard.
- Removing metal bins for disposal
- Keep the yard area and fleet parking clean and up to standard
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; prior warehouse, shop, or general labor experience preferred
- Must obtain a Forklift certification within 30 days of hire (employer-provided training)
- Ability to regularly lift/move up to 50 lbs and occasionally up to 75 lbs; frequent standing, bending, and walking throughout a shift
- Valid driver’s license required to move vehicles in and out of the shop and yard
- Comfortable working around heavy equipment, shop chemicals, and vehicle fluids; basic OSHA safety awareness
