Your New Role…

We are CNN; the world's most essential and engaging source of digital news. We are in the midst of rapid transformation and need our next generation of innovators, makers, and dreamers who will lead and drive our growth. We aim to make the world a better, more connected place.

The Staff, Product Operations - Platforms role reports to the Senior Director, Product & Data Operations, and is responsible for supporting our Platforms organization by helping translate platform priorities into clear operating rhythms, technical intake practices, release readiness, documentation, enablement, and feedback loops. This role works closely with the systems and architecture that power our business — from the CMS and editorial tools that enable journalists to create and publish stories, to the platforms that deliver content across our website, app, and linear channels. We are reimagining how CNN produces the news, and we need your help!

In this role, you will partner with senior leadership — especially the SVP of Product, Platforms — as well as cross-functional partners across Product, Design, Technology, Video Production, and Editorial, to help make platform priorities real through disciplined execution, structured operating practices, and clear communication. The right person brings technical fluency to understand platform tradeoffs, ask good questions, surface risks, and keep work

moving across CMS, publishing, experimentation, performance, and shared platform capabilities. This role does not have direct reports, requiring someone who is comfortable rolling up their sleeves to drive work forward.

You will also collaborate with operational peers, as well as Technical Program Managers, ensuring alignment across functions and helping teams adopt a cohesive operating model across the broader organization.

A core focus of this role is operationalizing platform changes, building and improving the processes that turn priorities into shipped work, supporting experimentation and performance practices across teams, and ensuring stakeholders — from editorial and newsroom partners to product and engineering teams — have the systems, tools, and workflows they need to deliver exceptional content experiences at scale.

The ideal candidate thrives in ambiguity, is highly organized, understands platform and product development workflows, and can work and collaborate credibly with technical teams while keeping practical execution front and center. They are energized by making complex work easier to manage, reducing operational drag, and helping teams move from decisions to delivery.

Your Role Accountabilities…

Platform Intake & Prioritization

  • Design and manage a structured intake process for platform-related requests, including CMS enhancements, editorial tooling, workflow automation, platform support, experimentation needs, and technical dependencies

  • Partner with Platforms leadership and technical teams to assess requests, clarify requirements, identify risks, and help sequence work across BAU operations and priority initiatives

  • Refine processes to balance flexibility with clarity, speed, and execution discipline

Operational Excellence & Ways of Working

  • Establish and run core team rituals, ceremonies, and planning processes for the Platforms organization

  • Drive consistency in how work is tracked, managed, and communicated through tools such as Jira and Confluence

  • Identify and implement ways to streamline technical workflows, reduce friction, and improve team velocity across editorial, product, and engineering partners

  • Operationalize AI-powered tools and methodologies, ensuring teams have the right support, training, and governance to adopt responsibly

Planning, Alignment & Execution Support

  • Support planning cycles by turning priorities into clear workstreams, milestones, and follow-up actions

  • Partner closely with Platforms leadership to keep teams aligned on goals, dependencies, and commitments, ensuring decisions are translated into practical execution plans that are technically feasible

  • Connect platform roadmaps, editorial needs, and product priorities by helping teams manage dependencies, unblock decisions, and deliver successfully

Experimentation & Performance Operations

  • Partner with Product, Design, Tech, and Data teams to operationalize experimentation practices

  • Build and maintain scalable frameworks for feature flagging, A/B testing, and data-driven decision-making

  • Support site and app performance goals by embedding speed, stability, observability, and scalability considerations into platform operating processes

  • Monitor experiment and platform performance, ensuring learnings are captured, shared, and actioned

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with other operators and TPMs to align on processes, dependencies, and shared goals

  • Act as a connective layer between Platforms and partner teams across editorial and product functions

  • Support cross-functional initiatives that require coordination across multiple disciplines, from newsroom workflow improvements to digital product launches

  • Serve as a hands-on collaborator, helping teams identify practical ways to improve platform capabilities and content experiences

Reporting & Communication

  • Develop and maintain reporting frameworks that provide clear, actionable updates to stakeholders

  • Communicate progress, priorities, risks, and platform health to senior leadership, partners, and editorial teams, including in the form of Monthly Business Reviews (MBRs)

  • Lead internal communications for the Platforms org, including supporting all-hands, regular updates, roadmap reviews, and meeting cadences that maintain momentum and clarity

  • Ensure stakeholders are aware of ongoing platform changes, experiments, or releases that may impact editorial workflows or user experience

Stakeholder & Partner Management

  • Build strong relationships with Platforms leaders, product managers, engineers, and editorial stakeholders, ensuring the organization is aligned, informed, and working well together

  • Ensure platform outputs are aligned with editorial and business needs and are delivered in a timely, impactful way

  • Act as a trusted partner in helping teams leverage platform capabilities to move faster and deliver higher-impact outcomes

  • Develop and manage key metrics on platform impact and health, proactively identifying and solving gaps

Qualifications & Experience…

  • 8+ years of experience in Product Operations, Program Management, Platform Operations, Technical Program Management, Product Management, or Platform Engineering

  • Strong technical ability in programming, architecture, product, or platform operations, with demonstrated ability to read and reason about technical architectures, APIs, and platform dependencies — must have the ability to facilitate technical conversations, triage platform requests, and assess complexity and risk

    • Experience with CMS platforms such as Headless CMS, Arc, Brightspot, WordPress VIP, or equivalent, and an understanding of content publishing pipelines

    • Working knowledge of observability, monitoring, and performance tooling such as Datadog, New Relic, Grafana, or equivalent

  • Strong understanding of platform and product development workflows, including CMS, editorial tooling, content publishing, experimentation, and performance optimization

  • Experience supporting or working within a Platforms, Product, or Engineering organization in a media, publishing, or content-driven environment

  • Proven ability to design, implement, and maintain scalable processes in a complex, matrixed environment

  • Experience with experimentation frameworks, feature flagging, and A/B testing methodologies

  • Familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Airtable, Figma, and platform monitoring and analytics tools

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities, bring structure to ambiguity, and move work forward without waiting for perfect clarity

  • Strong cross-functional collaboration skills, with experience partnering across Product, Design, Engineering, and Editorial teams

  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to translate complex platform work into clear, actionable updates for diverse audiences

  • A systems thinker who is always looking to streamline and improve how things get done

  • Bachelor's degree or commensurate experience
