ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
1 - Under the supervision of the assigned Operations Coordinator, operates a 14 - 36 passenger bus to transports employees and other individuals to and from off-site parking locations in a safe, courteous and efficient manner.
a - Operates bus according to established schedules and follows prescribed route.
b - Observes posted speed limit and drives in a safe manner taking into consider such factors as: general passenger care, traffic, road conditions, weather and other potential hazards. Communicates hazards to other drivers via two-way radio.
c - Follows established fleet safety policies and procedures.
d - Maximizes bus operation and productivity by minimizing "out of service time" to assure timely and efficient service.
e - Safely and effectively "loads" bus while being cognizant of the time that has elapsed since the first passenger boarded the bus.
f - Maintains a pleasant and friendly environment for passengers. Greets, communicates with and provides effective customer service to passengers. Communicates in an appropriate and professional manner in which enhances the reputation of the Shuttle Service and does not become excessive or negatively impacts the daily operation or efficiency of the program.
g - Reports employee complaints, concerns and incidents to lead driver and/or Operations Coordinator for appropriate follow up and to identify opportunities to enhance service.
h - Recommends changes in bus schedules or operation to enhance service.
i - Reports all accidents and near misses to Operations Coordinator and Security & Public Safety office.
2 - Performs operational inspection of vehicle at the start of each shift.
a - Performs a "circle check" of the assigned bus at the beginning of each shift as a safety inspection of vehicle tires, body condition, lights, etc.
b - Completes daily bus inspection report noting safety and other deficiencies that require follow up. Immediately report safety or reoccurring issues to lead driver and/or Operations Coordinator.
3 - Prepares and maintains accurate transportation logs and other reports as required
a - Reports completed daily to document hours of vehicle operation, miles driven, number of trips, number of passengers and other data requested by Operations Coordinator.
b - Documents number of cars parked at 67 Sharp Street and SouthField daily during assigned shift.
4 - Assists in the care and maintenance of the bus.
a - Sweeps bus floor at the end of assigned shift or as needed.
b - Wipes down dash board and driver's area at the end of assigned shift or as needed.
c - Removes personal items and debris from driving compartment that could create a safety hazard.
d - Inspects bus as end of shift for lost items and returns to Security & Public Safety office.
e - Reports mechanical or maintenance issues to lead driver and/or Operations Coordinator.
f - Fuels bus as needed.
g - Communicates need for bus wash and/or interior detailing to lead driver/Operations Coordinator.
5 - Monitors satellite parking lot area.
a - Reports surface, lighting and other potential safety hazards to the lead driver/Operations Coordinator.
b - Monitors parking lot and reports suspicious or unsafe activity to the Security and Public Safety office via two-way radio.
c - Monitors snowfall and communicates plowing and sanding needs to the Operations Coordinator and/or Security and Public Safety office.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum Education - Preferred
High school education preferred.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year experience operating a motor vehicle required. One year of professional driving is preferred.
*Verification of an acceptable motor vehicle driving record, at time of hire, with annual verification required thereafter.
Required Licenses / Registrations
CDL - Commercial Drivers License (Massachusetts) w/ Passenger "P" Endorsement
Required additional Knowledge, and Abilities
Must be able to communicate orally and in writing.
