About Bristol City Leap
Bristol City Leap is an innovative partnership between Bristol City Council and Ameresco which will accelerate green energy investment in Bristol and help towards decarbonising the whole city.
Over the next five years, Bristol City Leap will invest nearly £500 million into low carbon energy infrastructure, such as solar, wind, heat networks, heat pumps and energy efficiency measures – all of which will help Bristol meet its carbon reduction targets of becoming carbon neutral by 2030.

General Accountability
The Senior Quantity Surveyor will play a key role in the successful commercial management and delivery of projects from pre-construction through to final account. Working closely with the Client, internal stakeholders and the contract supply chain, the Senior QS will be responsible for ensuring projects are delivered profitably on programme and in accordance with contractual requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Manage all commercial aspects of construction projects throughout the project lifecycle.
Prepare, maintain and monitor project budgets, cost plans, forecasts, and cash flow projections.
Produce and manage Cost Value Reconciliations (CVRs) and provide accurate commercial reporting.
Administer and manage contracts, including NEC and/or JCT forms of contract.
Prepare, submit, and negotiate interim valuations, variations, compensation events, and final accounts.
Work closely with operational teams to ensure project scope, programme, and commercial objectives are achieved.
Assess and value change throughout the project lifecycle and ensure all entitlements are captured and recovered.
Support bid and pre-construction teams with cost advice, procurement strategies, and tender submissions.
Attend and lead commercial meetings, providing advice and guidance to project teams.
Monitor subcontractor performance and ensure commercial obligations are fulfilled.
Undertake site visits to monitor progress, verify works completed, and support commercial decision-making.
Ensure compliance with company procedures, contractual requirements, and health and safety standards.
Be commercially sharp with hands-on experience in pre-contract and contract negotiations.
Background in roles such as pre-construction manager, contract manager, commercial manager or equivalent.
Lead subcontract procurement activities, including preparation of tender enquiries, tender analysis, negotiations, and subcontract award recommendations.
Identify, manage, and mitigate commercial and contractual risks to protect project performance and profitability.
Maintain strong working relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.
Mentor and support Assistant and Quantity Surveyors within the commercial team.
Perform additional duties as specified by line manager/director.
Skills & Experience
The ideal candidate will:
Be degree qualified in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, or a related discipline.
Have proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor for both Client and Main Contractor environments.
Have a strong understanding of contracts such as NEC and JCT.
Have demonstrable experience in delivering projects across building, infrastructure, energy, utilities, or civil engineering sectors.
Have excellent knowledge of cost management, contractual procurement, contract administration, valuation and final accounting process.
Have strong commercial awareness with the ability to identify opportunities and manage risk.
Be skilled in analysing complex tender documents and pricing schedules.
Be familiar with decarbonisation projects.
Have excellent negotiation, communication and stakeholder management skills.
Possess strong organisation and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Be proficient in commercial reporting and forecasting.
Have a full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to project locations as required.
Ability to pass a DBS check.
