The 2028 Games mark the return of the Summer Games to the U.S. for the first time in 32 years and Los Angeles’ third time hosting an Olympic Games and first time welcoming the Paralympic Games. This presents the unique and exciting opportunity to celebrate our legacy with the Games and push the Olympic and Paralympic Movements forward, writing a new chapter of Games history in Los Angeles.

Position Summary  

Reporting to Director, Games Family Services Operations, the Senior Manager, Games Family Ceremony Operations is responsible for ensuring the provision of Games Family services at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of both the Olympics and Paralympics. The Senior Manager will assist in the development and application of all Games Family plans, policies, procedures and operations at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies. In addition, the Senior Manager will help in the selection and training of all Games Family staff and volunteers working within these venues and will mentor, support, and supervise these team members both prior to and during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  

The Senior Manager will serve as the primary contact for Ceremonies related Games Family Services prior to and during the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.  They will participate in the Ceremonies working group leading up to the Ceremonies and will work closely with all divisions of Games Family Services as well as all functional areas, contractors, IOC/IPC and dignitary delegations, and client groups planning for and delivering the Ceremonies. 

Key Responsibilities  

  • Serve as the expert on Games Family Services throughout the planning and delivery of the Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies

  • Serve as the primary Games Family representative at all venue team meetings and working groups leading up to and during the Olympic and Paralympic Opening and Closing Ceremonies 

  • Develop ceremonies specific Games Family policies, procedures, and plans  

  • Assist in the selection and training of all ceremonies specific Games Family staff and volunteers 

  • Work closely with other key functional areas such as transportation, security, venue management, event services, food & beverage, and ceremonies  

  • Work closely with ceremonies stakeholder groups including: IOC, IPC, and protocol 

  • Ensure that other divisions within Games Family Services are aware of Ceremonies plans and are represented appropriately throughout the planning process 

  • Manage all GFS ceremonies operations at any test events taking place prior to the Games

 

Technical Skills 

  • Intermediate Microsoft PowerPoint skills with the ability to develop presentations and reporting materials. 

  • Intermediate Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, budgeting, forecasting, tracking, analysis, and reporting. 

  • Intermediate Microsoft Word skills with the ability to develop operational plans, reports, and planning documentation using styles and set templates. 

  • Comfortable delivering presentations in person and online to small and large groups of internal and external stakeholders. 

 

Background and Requirements  

  • 5 - 8 years’ work experience in an international, large event or multi-sport Games environment (Ceremonies work experience is preferred) 

  • 5+ years direct people management experience, including oversight of full-time staff, contractors, or large volunteer teams (e.g., 10+ individuals) 

  • Experience leading cross-functional teams or multi-department initiatives 

  • Proven delivery of large-scale projects or events, including planning through execution phases 

  • Experience working with external stakeholders, such as government agencies, sponsors, or international partners 

  • A diploma or degree from a recognized post-secondary institution in a related field 

  • Oral and written fluency in English  

  

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions  

  • Available to work onsite in our Downtown Los Angeles-based office.   

  • The majority of work will be conducted in an office setting, requiring extended periods of time using computers, phones, and other office equipment.    

  • The LA28 office is an open floorplan working environment; employees must be able to work efficiently in an open cubicle environment.    

  • Hours of work may vary, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, especially during peak event periods.  

  • Perform other duties as required; the role will evolve over time and may include operational responsibilities during the Olympic and Paralympic Games.  

  

Expectations  

  • Work experience in an international, large event or multi-sport Games    environment is preferred 

  • Training experience preferred 

  • Excellent project management skills, people management skills 

  • Diplomatic, service-oriented, positive, and resourceful personality 

  • Experience working in multi-lingual settings is a plus 

  • Knowledge of other languages is a plus 

The annual base salary range for this position is $105,000 - $140,000. The pay scale provided is the range that LA28 reasonably expects to pay as starting base compensation for this role. All LA28 compensation remains subject to final determination based on individual candidate qualifications, experience, or other reasonable criteria consistent with LA28’s operational business needs and applicable law.  

LA28 does not provide relocation assistance.
