Job Summary
A Fire Sprinkler Designer is responsible for the design, layout, and documentation of fire sprinkler systems for commercial, industrial, and institutional projects. This role develops accurate, constructible design packages, including shop drawings, hydraulic calculations, and permit submittals, and partners closely with project management, field operations, and trade teams to support efficient project delivery.
Key Responsibilities
•
Review architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings, specifications, and contract documents to develop coordinated fire sprinkler designs.
•
Design wet, dry, preaction, and other water-based fire sprinkler systems in compliance with applicable codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM guidelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
•
Prepare shop drawings, design layouts, hydraulic calculations, and material listings using AutoSprink, Revit, AutoCAD, or comparable design platforms.
•
Develop permit submittals and supporting documentation for review by authorities having jurisdiction.
•
Coordinate with project managers, fabrication, field teams, and trade partners to enhance constructability and installation efficiency.
•
Participate in BIM coordination and clash detection processes as required by project scope.
•
Incorporate revisions based on internal quality review, field conditions, client feedback, and code review comments.
•
Provide design support throughout project execution, including fabrication, installation, inspection, and closeout activities.
Required Skills & Qualifications
Education
•
Degree in Electrical, Electronic, or Mechanical Engineering (or related technical field).
Experience
•
3 to 6 years of relevant experience in fire sprinkler system design, drafting, or fire protection layout.
•
Working knowledge of applicable fire protection codes and standards, including but not limited to NFPA 13, NFPA 14, NFPA 20, IBC, FM guidelines, and applicable state and local requirements.
•
Proficiency with AutoSprink, Revit, AutoCAD, or similar design software preferred.
•
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications, and technical documentation.
•
Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
•
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
•
Relevant industry certifications are preferred where required by the designated operating company or local jurisdiction.
