We are looking for a Senior Data Engineer to work on a project in the media sector that has a strong background in ETL development and data pipeline operations.

We're looking for a Senior Data Engineer to help build the foundations of a new canonical data platform and progressively migrate data out of a large legacy environment.

The initial role will work closely with the Lead Data Architect and Data Analysts, helping validate proposed models and mappings before turning them into production-quality pipelines and datasets. The target architecture is clear, but the detailed source data is still being discovered, so this suits someone comfortable collaborating closely with architects and analysts rather than expecting fully defined requirements upfront.

What you will do:

• Build ingestion and transformation pipelines from existing source systems into the new platform

• Implement source-to-canonical mappings defined during the discovery process

• Develop reliable, testable and observable data pipelines

• Work with analysts and architects to validate assumptions about grain, keys, relationships and historical behaviour

• Build reusable patterns for onboarding additional datasets and feeds

• Implement data quality checks, reconciliation and validation between legacy and new platforms

• Support migration of workloads away from the existing Db2 environment

• Help establish engineering standards around orchestration, testing, lineage, deployment and monitoring

• Contribute to technical decisions around Snowflake, Iceberg, AWS and the wider lakehouse architecture

What you will bring:

• Strong, hands-on data engineering experience, ideally gained modernising large legacy data platforms

• Strong SQL, plus experience with modern data pipelines and Python or a similar language

• Hands-on experience with orchestration frameworks such as Airflow, Prefect, dbt, or Azure Data Factory

• Experience with cloud storage and warehouse/lakehouse technologies

• Solid understanding of data modelling principles (grain, keys, relationships, historical behaviour)

• Experience with data quality, reconciliation and validation between systems

• Comfortable working where the target architecture is defined but source data is still being discovered

• Good communication skills and a proactive approach to collaborating with architects and analysts

Nice to have:

• Experience with Snowflake, AWS and Iceberg

• Experience with Db2 migration

• Experience with Spark or similar distributed processing technologies

• Background supporting the modernisation of large, established data platforms
