As a Senior Data Engineer at Iress, you will design, develop and maintain scalable, secure and high-performing data processing solutions that support critical financial market operations and business outcomes. You will play a key role in ensuring the integrity, reliability and availability of data systems that underpin client and business decision-making.
You will collaborate across engineering, infrastructure, security and product teams to deliver compliant, resilient and maintainable solutions in a highly regulated environment. Success in this role means delivering high-quality data platforms and pipelines that support operational excellence, improve system performance, and enable rapid, reliable delivery of business value.

You design and develop scalable data processing solutions that support financial market and business applications.
You build and maintain secure, reliable and high-performing data pipelines and platforms that meet operational and regulatory requirements.
You ensure the accuracy, integrity and availability of financial and operational data across systems and environments.
You collaborate with product, engineering, infrastructure, security and SRE teams to deliver resilient and compliant solutions.
You optimise data processing performance, scalability and operational stability across cloud-based environments.
You contribute to architectural decisions and technical strategy with a focus on maintainability, observability and long-term scalability.
You implement testing, monitoring and quality assurance practices to ensure system reliability and data quality.
You troubleshoot and resolve production issues, supporting operational continuity and minimising service disruption.
You document technical designs, deployment processes, architectures and operational procedures.
You mentor and support other engineers through technical guidance, collaboration and knowledge sharing.
You contribute to continuous improvement practices, modern engineering standards and iterative delivery approaches.
What you will bring
Experience and Knowledge
5+ years’ experience in software engineering, data engineering or a similar technical role.
Strong experience designing, building and maintaining scalable data pipelines and distributed data processing systems.
Experience working within financial services, trading environments or other regulated industries will be highly regarded.
Strong knowledge of data engineering principles, ETL processes, data modelling and data warehousing concepts.
Experience with cloud-based platforms and modern data engineering tooling.
Experience working with high-availability, secure and compliance-focused systems.
Strong analytical, troubleshooting and problem-solving capability.
Experience working in agile or iterative software delivery environments.
Understanding of data governance, security, auditability and operational resilience practices.
Technical Knowledge
Programming languages such as Python, Java or Scala.
Data processing frameworks such as Apache Spark, Apache Flink or Apache Beam.
Relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL or MS SQL.
NoSQL technologies such as MongoDB or Cassandra.
Data warehousing and platform technologies including Databricks, Snowflake or BigQuery.
Cloud platforms, preferably AWS.
CI/CD and infrastructure tooling including GitHub, Buildkite, Terraform and Artifactory.
Qualifications and certifications
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering or a related discipline.
Relevant cloud, engineering or financial market certifications would be advantageous.
