Responsibilities
Lead hands-on custom code activities for SAP S/4HANA release upgrades, including custom code impact analysis (ATC, Simplification Item checks, Custom Code Migration), SPDD/SPAU adjustments, remediation of obsolete or incompatible objects, cleanup of modifications and enhancements, technical regression support, cutover support, hypercare, and post-upgrade stabilization in coordination with the Basis and functional teams.
Assess the current custom code landscape, identifying unused or duplicated objects, modifications to SAP standard, undocumented developments, performance hotspots, security exposures in custom code, clean-core violations, integration dependencies, technical debt, partner dependencies, and opportunities for simplification, refactoring, or automation.
Help define the SAP development operating model, including coding standards, naming conventions, code review practices, ATC baseline and check variants, ABAP Unit expectations, technical specification templates, definition of done, transport discipline, release participation, partner handoffs, and audit evidence practices for changes.
Provide hands-on ABAP development for regulatory and fiscal changes impacting Brazil, including Reforma Tributária, SAP Notes implementation with manual steps and code adjustments, localization extensions (tax determination, NF-e, DRC / Document and Reporting Compliance, SPED and related obligations), technical impact analysis, and support to functional changes led by FI/CO, Tax, Product, and external partners.
Design, build, test, and maintain custom developments end to end on S/4HANA, including reports and programs, enhancements (BAdIs, enhancement spots, implicit enhancements), CDS views, AMDP, RAP-based services, OData services for Fiori applications, forms (Adobe Forms / Smart Forms), background jobs, data migration and correction programs, and interfaces (IDoc, RFC/BAPI, OData, REST via ABAP HTTP client, proxies).
Apply clean-core principles in daily development, favoring released APIs and extensibility options (in-app, developer, and side-by-side extensibility) over modifications, reducing the custom code footprint, and preparing the landscape for future upgrades and ABAP Cloud adoption where applicable.
Own custom code quality through ATC and Code Inspector, ABAP Unit tests, peer code review, and performance analysis (SQL Monitor, ST05, SAT, runtime analysis), ensuring HANA-optimized code (code pushdown, efficient data access) and durable, maintainable solutions.
Govern the technical side of change management through STMS and ChaRM / SAP Cloud ALM, ensuring traceability between requirements, technical specifications, transports, and test evidence, segregation of duties, emergency-change control, approval evidence, and safe promotion across DEV, QAS, and PRD.
Apply secure coding practices in partnership with Security and GRC stakeholders, including proper authorization checks in custom objects, Code Vulnerability Analyzer findings remediation, protection against SQL injection and directory traversal, secure handling of personal and sensitive data, logging and audit trail requirements, and evidence generation aligned with LGPD, BACEN, and SOX where applicable.
Develop and support the ABAP side of integrations, including SAP Integration Suite / CPI scenarios (proxies, OData and REST endpoints, IDoc and RFC interfaces), interface monitoring and error handling from the application perspective, certificate and connectivity troubleshooting together with Basis, and coordination with integration developers or external partners for iflow changes.
Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex application-level incidents, including short dumps (ST22), failed background jobs, interface and runtime failures, performance degradation in custom code, authorization-related blockers in custom programs, data inconsistencies, and upgrade defects, ensuring durable corrective actions and clear documentation.
Support functional teams and the Product Owner with technical feasibility assessments, effort estimates, technical specifications, debugging of SAP standard code, SAP Notes analysis and validation, and translation of business requirements into robust technical designs.
Act as the internal ABAP counterpart for implementation partners and AMS providers, reviewing and challenging technical designs, code quality, enhancement approach, SAP Notes strategy, transport sequencing, test evidence, security implications, documentation, and production-readiness criteria.
Establish technical acceptance criteria for partner deliveries, including technical specifications, code review results, ATC compliance, unit and regression test evidence, rollback plans, performance validation, operational documentation, and handover quality.
Create and maintain technical documentation, custom object inventories, technical specifications, developer guidelines, interface and job runbooks, known-error databases, and audit evidence repositories, ensuring readiness for internal, external, BACEN, LGPD, and SOX-related reviews.
Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly for code generation, code review, test generation, ATC finding remediation, log and dump analysis, documentation, and knowledge base creation, ensuring all outputs are reviewed and validated before use in production or audit-relevant contexts.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead hands-on technical activities for SAP S/4HANA release upgrades, including sandbox, development, quality, and pre-production cycles, SUM execution, SAP Notes lifecycle, technical regression support, cutover planning, hypercare, rollback readiness, and post-upgrade stabilization.
- Assess the current SAP technical landscape, identifying platform risks, undocumented configurations, upgrade dependencies, monitoring gaps, security exposures, integration dependencies, technical debt, partner dependencies, and opportunities for automation or standardization.
- Help define the SAP platform operating model, including support levels, escalation paths, incident ownership, monitoring standards, transport governance, release participation, environment strategy, documentation requirements, partner handoffs, and audit evidence practices.
- Provide hands-on SAP platform support for regulatory and fiscal changes impacting Brazil, including Reforma Tributária, SAP Notes adoption, version baseline alignment, technical impact analysis, environment readiness, transport coordination, and support to functional changes led by FI/CO, Tax, Product, and external partners.
- Operate and continuously improve the SAP S/4HANA landscape end to end, covering installations, support packages, kernel updates, system refreshes, client copies, job monitoring, interface monitoring, technical housekeeping, capacity reviews, and routine Basis activities.
- Administer and govern SAP HANA operational practices, including HANA System Replication, backup and recovery, performance monitoring, query and memory analysis, capacity planning, patch coordination, and incident response.
- Govern transport and change management activities through STMS and ChaRM / SAP Cloud ALM, ensuring traceability, segregation of duties, emergency-change control, approval evidence, release coordination, and safe promotion across DEV, QAS, and PRD.
- Apply and support SAP platform security baselines in partnership with Security and GRC stakeholders, including technical user lifecycle, SSO, certificate management, audit logs, role transport controls, emergency access support, and evidence generation aligned with LGPD, BACEN, and SOX where applicable.
- Operate SAP environments on cloud or managed SAP platforms, such as RISE with SAP and/or AWS depending on the actual landscape, supporting HA/DR routines, sizing reviews, performance baselines, backup validation, cost awareness, and vendor coordination.
- Maintain and periodically validate backup, restore, high availability, and disaster recovery procedures, ensuring that recovery objectives are documented, tested, and aligned with business criticality.
- Provide platform-level support for SAP Integration Suite / CPI, including tenant administration, connectivity, certificate management, Cloud Connector, monitoring, runtime troubleshooting, deployment support, and coordination with integration developers or external partners for iflow changes.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of complex SAP platform incidents, including performance degradation, job failures, transport issues, connectivity problems, interface/runtime failures, HANA alerts, authorization-related technical blockers, and upgrade defects, ensuring durable corrective actions and clear documentation.
- Define and improve SAP platform observability, including job monitoring, interface monitoring, HANA health indicators, system availability, performance baselines, transport failure tracking, certificate expiration alerts, backup validation, and incident recurrence analysis.
- Act as the internal SAP platform counterpart for implementation partners and AMS providers, reviewing and challenging technical plans, Basis activities, transports, cutover steps, SAP Notes approach, environment dependencies, security implications, documentation, and production-readiness criteria.
- Establish technical acceptance criteria for partner deliveries, including implementation plans, transport sequencing, rollback plans, test evidence, monitoring impact, security considerations, operational documentation, and handover quality.
- Create and maintain technical documentation, landscape diagrams, runbooks, operational playbooks, known-error databases, cutover plans, recovery procedures, and audit evidence repositories, ensuring readiness for internal, external, BACEN, LGPD, and SOX-related reviews.
- Use AI-assisted engineering tools responsibly for scripting, log analysis, runbook generation, documentation, knowledge base creation, and operational analysis, ensuring all outputs are reviewed and validated before use in production or audit-relevant contexts.
Requirements
- Academic background in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent technical experience in SAP ABAP development.
- Solid hands-on experience as an ABAP developer on productive SAP S/4HANA landscapes, including ABAP OO, enhancement framework (BAdIs, enhancement spots, implicit enhancements), CDS views, AMDP, RAP, OData services for Fiori, ABAP Unit, and ATC.
- Experience with S/4HANA release upgrades and custom code adaptation, including ATC and Simplification Item checks, Custom Code Migration, SPDD/SPAU adjustments, remediation of obsolete objects, and HANA-optimized coding practices.
- Experience working in environments where development standards, code governance, documentation, or internal capabilities were still being built is highly desirable.
- Practical knowledge of clean-core principles and S/4HANA extensibility options (in-app, developer, and side-by-side extensibility), with exposure to ABAP Cloud / released APIs as a strong plus.
- Hands-on experience with Brazilian localization on SAP, including FI/CO and tax-related developments, NF-e, DRC / Document and Reporting Compliance, SPED and related fiscal obligations, and implementation of SAP Notes with manual steps and code adjustments. Exposure to the Reforma Tributária transition is a strong plus.
- Strong experience with SAP integration technologies from the ABAP side, including IDoc, RFC/BAPI, OData, REST via ABAP HTTP client, and proxies, plus working knowledge of SAP Integration Suite / CPI from a developer perspective. Groovy or JavaScript for CPI iflow development is a strong plus.
- Experience with performance analysis and tuning of custom code, including SQL Monitor, ST05, SAT, runtime analysis, and code pushdown to SAP HANA.
- Working knowledge of SAP security applied to custom code, including authorization objects and checks, Code Vulnerability Analyzer, secure coding practices, secure handling of personal data, and collaboration with Security/GRC teams on SoD-related controls.
- Strong experience with SAP transport governance using ChaRM on Solution Manager 7.2 or SAP Cloud ALM, with familiarity with modern approaches such as gCTS, abapGit, and CI/CD applied to ABAP assets (abaplint, automated ABAP Unit execution).
- Experience debugging SAP standard code and analyzing SAP Notes to support incident resolution, functional teams, and upgrade validation.
- Experience producing technical evidence for audits, including technical specifications, code review records, test evidence, transport approvals, and change documentation.
- Basis fundamentals expected for effective collaboration with the SAP Basis Specialist, including transport landscape, background job scheduling, system monitoring transactions, and reading of system logs. Scripting in Python or shell for developer automation is a plus.
- Practical experience in regulated industries (fintech, banking, payments, retail, or e-commerce), with exposure to compliance frameworks such as BACEN, LGPD, or SOX.
- Experience acting as the internal ABAP counterpart to implementation partners and AMS providers, with the ability to review and challenge technical designs, code quality, enhancement approach, SAP Notes strategy, test evidence, documentation, and production-readiness criteria.
- Desirable: familiarity with SAP Fiori / UI5, SAP BTP (ABAP Environment, Build), BW/4HANA, and Adobe Forms.
- Practical experience applying AI-assisted tools (Claude Code, Copilot, or similar) to ABAP development and SAP operations.
- SAP certifications in ABAP for SAP S/4HANA (Back-End Developer), ABAP Cloud / RAP, SAP NetWeaver ABAP, or SAP Integration Suite.
- Fluent Portuguese and advanced Spanish and English required given LATAM operations.

Industry-Specific Knowledge
It is highly desirable for the SAP Basis & Platform Specialist to have experience operating SAP technology in regulated, high-volume environments such as fintech, banking, payments, retail, or e-commerce. Strong candidates will understand how regulatory frameworks such as BACEN, LGPD, and SOX, as well as Brazilian fiscal complexity and recurring legal changes, impact SAP platform operations, release planning, transport governance, audit evidence, security controls, integration reliability, and production readiness. Current examples in the portfolio include SAP S/4HANA release upgrades and the Brazilian Tax Reform transition, with similar regulatory initiatives expected over time.
