How You Will Make an Impact:

The Safety Coordinator (Power) supports the HSE and operations teams in driving the region toward Atlas health, safety, and environmental objectives across permanent power generation facilities. This role owns site-level regulatory compliance, audits generation and battery energy storage systems, supports electrical safety and energized work programs, and embeds HSE requirements into construction, commissioning, and the transition from temporary to permanent installations. The HSE Coordinator provides guidance and instruction to all levels of management, HSE personnel, and employees to reduce the frequency and severity of personal injuries, motor vehicle incidents, property damage, and environmental releases.

Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance & Auditing

  • Lead site-level compliance with OSHA, EPA, state environmental agencies, and local authorities having jurisdiction (AHJs) for permanent power generation facilities.
  • Conduct comprehensive HSE audits of generation and battery storage systems, verifying compliance with applicable electrical, mechanical, and environmental standards.
  • Maintain site HSE documentation, permits, and recordkeeping required by regulation and Atlas standards.

Electrical Safety & BESS Risk Control

  • Support implementation and auditing of electrical safety programs, including high-voltage systems, arc flash hazard analysis, lockout/tagout (LOTO), and energized work controls.
  • Oversee safety controls and emergency planning related to battery energy storage systems (BESS), including thermal runaway mitigation and fire response protocols.
  • Develop and maintain site-specific Emergency Action Plans (EAPs) tailored to generator and battery storage hazards, and coordinate drills involving fire departments and local emergency responders.

Construction, Commissioning & Contractor Oversight

  • Participate in commissioning and transition activities from temporary to permanent installations, ensuring HSE requirements are embedded in the design and construction phases.
  • Partner with Project Management during site buildouts to ensure contractor safety compliance and alignment with Atlas HSE standards.
  • Conduct field audits during construction and transition phases to verify adherence to safety and environmental requirements.

Incident Investigation & Performance Analysis

  • Provide expertise in incident investigations to determine root cause and recommend preventive measures, and track corrective actions through to closure.
  • Track and analyze leading and lagging indicators to recommend risk-reduction strategies specific to power generation operations.

Field Engagement & Compliance

  • Conduct field engagements, safety observations, and toolbox talks, coaching crews, contractors, and supervisors on safe work practice.
  • Comply with all Atlas Energy Solutions policies, procedures, and work requirements, and report incidents, near-misses, and unsafe conditions immediately.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 Qualifications

  • Required:
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • 2 - 4 years of HSE experience in power generation, energy infrastructure, or heavy industrial operations with a bachelor’s degree; 4+ years with an associate degree in a related technical discipline; or 6+ years of progressive HSE experience supporting high-energy, industrial, or construction operations with a high school diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2+ years of experience supporting electrical safety programs, including NFPA 70E implementation, arc flash hazard mitigation, and LOTO
  • Demonstrated experience conducting incident investigations using root cause methodologies such as TapRooT, 5-Why, or Fishbone
  • Working knowledge of applicable regulatory requirements and reporting procedures, including OSHA and EPA, and experience interacting with state and local authorities having jurisdiction
  • Ability to work in both construction and operational environments during site transition phases
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to instruct and influence operations leadership, contractors, regulators, and customers
  • Strong organizational skills with attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple sites and priorities
  • Ability to travel to regional sites and to respond to incidents outside of standard business hours
  • Valid Driver’s License

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Environmental Science, Engineering, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field preferred
  • Professional safety certification such as OHST, CHST, SMS, ASP, or CSP, or progress toward one
  • Experience supporting construction safety programs, contractor oversight, and site build or commissioning activities
  • Familiarity with battery energy storage systems (BESS) or other high-energy storage technologies
  • Knowledge of contractor safety compliance systems such as Avetta, ISNetWorld, and Veriforce
  • Experience developing emergency action plans and coordinating drills with external emergency responders
  • Experience supporting distributed generation, microgrid, or behind-the-meter power operations

Reporting Relationship:

  • Reports To: Safety Manager
  • Supervisory Responsibilities:
  • May provide technical direction to others

Work Location & Travel Requirements

How You Will Stand Out

  • You are visible in the field, and crews and contractors talk to you because they trust you.
  • You understand electrical hazard on a technical level, and arc flash and LOTO are not abstractions to you.
  • You investigate to root cause and verify that corrective actions actually hold.
  • You coach rather than police, and you can correct a behavior without losing the relationship.
  • You keep compliance documentation clean, because an inspection should never be a fire drill.
  • You build working relationships with regulators, fire departments, and local responders before you need them.
  • You communicate clearly with everyone from a new hire on their first day to a customer safety representative.
