About the role:

As a journalist based in Geraldton, you'll play a key role in delivering impactful local news and connecting with the community through compelling storytelling.

• Cover a diverse range of stories including breaking news, local politics, sport, community issues, courts, and major regional events.

• Report for the Geraldton Guardian (published Tuesdays and Fridays) and the Midwest Times (published Wednesdays).

• Create engaging content for Seven West Media's digital and social media platforms.

• Develop strong relationships with local stakeholders, community groups, and key contacts across the region.

• Research, investigate, and uncover stories that resonate with local audiences.

• Work in a fast-paced environment where every day brings new challenges and opportunities.

About you:

We're looking for someone who is curious, proactive and passionate about telling stories that matter.

• Demonstrated experience in journalism, reporting, communications, media, or a related field, supported by relevant tertiary qualifications.

• Strong interviewing, communication and relationship-building skills.

• The ability to work effectively under pressure and adapt to changing priorities.

• A strong news sense with the ability to work to tight deadlines.

• A genuine passion for local journalism and community storytelling.

• An interest in hard news including crime, courts and politics (desirable).

• Experience with, or a willingness to develop skills in, digital publishing and social media promotion.

• A current and valid driver's licence.
