How will you make an impact?

As an R&D – Electrical Engineering Technician, Technology Center, you will provide hands-on technical support for rapid prototyping, engineering builds, product testing, reliability evaluations, and troubleshooting of cold storage and laboratory equipment.

In this role, you will work closely with R&D engineers and other Technology Center technicians to build, modify, instrument, and test prototype electrical and electromechanical systems throughout the New Product Development (NPD) process. You will support engineering builds from early prototypes through increasingly production-representative configurations and help execute structured performance, reliability, and product evaluation testing.

Your technical skills will help engineering teams quickly build, test, troubleshoot, and improve new products while ensuring work is completed safely, accurately, and according to established engineering procedures.

What will you do?

Electrical Prototyping & Engineering Builds

  • Build, wire, modify, and troubleshoot prototype electrical and electromechanical systems supporting cold storage and laboratory equipment development.
  • Assemble electrical test fixtures, reliability test fixtures, wiring harnesses, control panels, and other engineering evaluation equipment.
  • Perform electrical modifications to prototype units in accordance with engineering drawings, schematics, instructions, and established safety practices.
  • Install and integrate components such as motors, compressors, fans, relays, switches, contactors, sensors, power supplies, wiring harnesses, and related control components.
  • Perform soldering and rework of through-hole and surface-mount electronic components as required for prototype development and troubleshooting.
  • Work closely with electrical, controls, mechanical, and refrigeration engineers to complete prototype builds and design iterations accurately and efficiently.

Engineering Test & Reliability Evaluation

  • Set up and execute electrical, functional, performance, and reliability tests at the component, subsystem, and product level.
  • Conduct testing according to Engineering Test Procedures (ETPs), engineering instructions, and approved test methods.
  • Build and configure fixtures used for accelerated life, cycling, fault-condition, and other reliability evaluations.
  • Monitor test systems, document observations, identify abnormal conditions, and communicate results to engineering teams.
  • Assist engineers with troubleshooting failures identified during prototype, verification, and reliability testing.
  • Support setup and execution of regulatory and agency testing, including UL, CE, CSA, or similar product evaluations.
  • Maintain accurate test records and documentation to support engineering analysis and product development decisions.

Instrumentation, Measurement & Data Acquisition

  • Configure and operate data acquisition and data-logging equipment used for engineering and reliability testing.
  • Use oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power meters, data loggers, and related electrical test equipment to evaluate system operation and troubleshoot problems.
  • Assist with automation of test execution, data acquisition, and reporting activities as required.
  • Work with engineering teams to ensure test configurations accurately represent the intended evaluation conditions.

Electrical & Controls Troubleshooting

  • Troubleshoot electrical and electromechanical systems to identify component, wiring, control, instrumentation, or system-level failures.
  • Apply working knowledge of electrical circuits including AC/DC power, relays, triacs, transformers, power conversion, signal conditioning, temperature measurement, and motor-control circuits.
  • Support evaluation and troubleshooting of control boards, sensors, actuators, wiring harnesses, and electrical interfaces.
  • Apply basic knowledge of PLCs, industrial controls, and embedded control systems when supporting laboratory test equipment and prototype products.

People and Culture

  • Engage in a culture of safety, quality, accountability, and continuous improvement.
  • Travel: Up to 10% domestic travel.

How will you get here?

Education

  • Associate degree in Electrical Engineering Technology, Electronics Technology, Industrial Electronics, Mechatronics, HVAC/R Technology, or related technical discipline preferred.
  • Relevant technical apprenticeships, military technical training, or equivalent combination of education and practical experience will be considered.

Experience

  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in electrical/electronic technology, engineering testing, prototype development, manufacturing, or a related technical environment.
  • Experience building, wiring, modifying, or troubleshooting electrical and electromechanical systems.
  • Experience using laboratory electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, power meters, and data loggers.
  • Experience with instrumentation and data acquisition systems used for engineering testing.
  • Experience reading and working from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience soldering and reworking electrical or electronic components.
  • Experience with HVAC/R, refrigeration, thermal systems, or other controlled-environment equipment strongly preferred.
  • Experience supporting prototype development, product testing, reliability testing, or manufacturing engineering activities preferred.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong practical knowledge of electrical wiring, electrical components, and basic electronic circuits.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, engineering drawings, Engineering Test Procedures, and work instructions.
  • Working knowledge of AC and DC electrical systems, relays, switches, sensors, motors, compressors, fans, and related electromechanical components.
  • Familiarity with motor-control circuits, power conversion, temperature measurement circuits, and analog/digital signals.
  • Basic knowledge of PLCs and industrial control systems.
  • Proficiency using soldering equipment, oscilloscopes, digital multimeters, data loggers, and related laboratory equipment.
  • Strong hands-on troubleshooting and structured problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to accurately document test setups, observations, results, and technical issues.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to support multiple concurrent prototype and test activities.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work effectively with engineers, technicians, manufacturing personnel, and other cross-functional partners.
