About the Role:

The Quality, Environment, Health & Safety (QEHS) Manager is the senior functional leader for quality, environmental compliance, occupational health and safety at Eriez Magnetics Europe Ltd. As a member of the Leadership Team, the postholder will translate business strategy into a practical, risk-based QEHS roadmap that protects people and the environment, assures product and process quality, strengthens customer confidence and enables profitable, sustainable growth.

Reporting to the Managing Director, the role provides independent professional advice, constructive challenge and visible leadership across manufacturing, engineering, laboratory, office, field-service and contractor activities. The postholder owns the integrated management system and ensures that legal, regulatory, customer and group requirements are embedded in everyday operations and continuous improvement.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Leadership, Strategy & Governance

  • Act as a full member of the Leadership Team, contributing beyond the QEHS function to business planning, investment decisions, capacity, productivity, people capability and organisational risk.
  • Develop and deliver a three-year QEHS strategy and annual operating plan with clear priorities, owners, milestones, resources and measurable outcomes.
  • Advise the Managing Director and Leadership Team on legal duties, material risks, emerging regulation, assurance results and the adequacy of controls.

  • Own the QEHS budget and business cases for risk reduction, compliance, sustainability and improvement projects.
  • Provide timely escalation of significant incidents, non-compliance, enforcement contact or risk exposure, and coordinate appropriate executive response.

2. Integrated Management Systems & Assurance

  • Own, maintain and continuously improve the integrated management system, aligned as appropriate to ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and ISO 45001 principles and certification requirements.
  • Set the audit programme and lead internal, customer, certification, insurer and regulatory audits; ensure findings are prioritised, owned, verified and closed on time.
  • Maintain controlled policies, procedures, records, legal registers, compliance evaluations and document-retention arrangements.
  • Lead management review, ensuring performance, risks, opportunities, objectives, audit outcomes, resources and improvement actions are evaluated by leadership.
  • Apply risk-based thinking and management of change to new products, equipment, layouts, materials, processes, projects and organisational changes.

3. Quality Leadership

  • Define the site quality strategy, objectives and controls from enquiry and design through procurement, manufacture, inspection, test, dispatch, installation and after-sales support.
  • Improve right-first-time performance, cost of poor quality, rework, scrap, warranty and customer complaint outcomes using structured problem solving and preventive action.
  • Lead non-conformance, root cause analysis and corrective action processes, using methods such as 5 Why, fishbone, 8D, Pareto and mistake-proofing.
  • Ensure inspection, measurement, test and calibration arrangements are suitable, controlled and traceable.
  • Partner with Engineering, Operations, Sales and Service to strengthen design reviews, specifications, quality plans, acceptance criteria and lessons learned.
  • Develop supplier quality assurance, supplier approval, performance monitoring and improvement with Procurement and Operations.

4. Health, Safety & Occupational Health

  • Ensure compliance with the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and applicable UK regulations, approved codes of practice and guidance.

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness, fire safety, first aid, evacuation, spill response, drills and business-continuity interfaces.
  • Coordinate occupational health surveillance, health-risk management and referrals while maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Ensure employees, contractors and visitors receive suitable induction, competence assessment, training, toolbox talks and role-specific instruction.

5. Environmental Management & Sustainability

  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits, consents, waste duty of care, producer-responsibility obligations and other applicable environmental legislation.
  • Maintain the aspects-and-impacts assessment, compliance obligations register and operational controls for emissions, discharges, chemicals, waste, energy and nuisance prevention.
  • Set and monitor practical objectives for waste reduction, recycling, energy and water efficiency, responsible purchasing, spill prevention and carbon-footprint improvement.
  • Provide environmental input to product, process, facility and capital decisions, recognising Eriez technologies' contribution to recycling, resource recovery and more efficient processing.
  • Maintain effective relationships with Natural Resources Wales, local authorities, waste contractors, utilities and other relevant stakeholders.
  • Lead environmental incident response, investigation, reporting and remediation.

6. Performance, People & Continuous Improvement
